Trainer Chris Waller to send Champagne Cath to Canterbury before MM Classic assignment

CHRIS Waller will give champagne Cath her final lead-up race before the $2 million Magic Millions Classic when she lines up at Canterbury.

SYDNEY'S all-conquering trainer Chris Waller will give boom two-year-old Champagne Cath her final lead-up race before the $2 million Magic Millions Classic when she lines up at Canterbury on Saturday.

Champagne Cath is arguably the most impressive juvenile in Sydney this season after romping home by more than three lengths in fast time at Rosehill this month.

In an astute move, Waller gave Champagne Cath an early look at the tight Canterbury track with an exhibition gallop there at the night meeting on Friday night.

"She seems to have come through her Rosehill win very well and is training on nicely,''  Waller said.

Waller has also nominated Champagne Cath for the McLachlan Stakes at Doomben but indicated a preference to racing her at Canterbury.

"I want to see how she goes next Saturday first but I'd probably send her up to Queensland no later than the Wednesday prior to the Magic Millions (January 12),'' the trainer said.

Champion jockey Corey Brown, who rode Champagne Cath to win at Rosehill, will partner the filly.

Brown, who is riding in great form, is a jockey in demand at the moment.

He is booked to ride first starter Springs Rewards for Team Hawkes in a Benchmark 75 race for three-year-old fillies at Canterbury against the horse he rode to win win the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes last week, She's A Stalker.

Despite her Wyong win, She's A Stalker remains well down on the order of entry for the $1 million Magic Millons 3YO Guineas (1400m) and trainer Angela Davies made a late decison to enter She's A Stalker for Saturday's race in a bid to earn more prizemoney and secure a Gold Coast start.

But Brown could be left without a ride in the Group 3 $125,000 Summer Cup (2400m) at Rosehill on Boxing Day after the poor run of the Waller-trained Lucripetous at Warwick Farm..

Lucripetous ran a poor eighth as favourite at Warwick Farm on Saturday and Waller is only lukewarm about backing him up in Wednesday's feature staying race.
