Brad Waters’ best bets and value play for 2024 Zipping Classic Day at Caulfield

A strong first-up outing has left a Group 1 winner primed for a second-up success while a $15 chance is worth an each-way play at Saturday’s Zipping Classic meeting.

Racenet and The Herald-Sun form analyst Brad Waters takes an early look at Saturday’s Zipping Classic meeting at Caulfield.

BEST BET
Race 9 No.1 TUVALU

Closed well when carrying the top weight at Group 1 level first-up. He drops in class second-up and is well suited at weight-for-age.

VALUE BET
Race 8 No.15 LITTLE MIX

Little Mix looked ready for the 2400m when running on well at Flemington. Soft ground will suit her and she has been thereabouts at all 2400m runs.

RACE 1: 12:20PM WHISPERING ANGEL HANDICAP (1800m)
Rain is forecast for Saturday so working with wet trackers. EASY DUN (11) was costly at Donald last start but will be fitter and was OK in stakes races on soft tracks in winter. PRIVATE JUMBO (7) was too good from the front at Bendigo and is hard fit. HIYAAM PROUD (6) was unlucky over 1700m last start but is a winner over this trip. HAARACAINE (2) will be suited over 1800m.
SUGGESTED BET: Easy Dun $10 – $9.50.
LADBROKES MARKET MOVER: Private Jumbo $8.50 – $5.50.

RACE 2: 12:50PM LISTED HENLEY HOMES MERSON COOPER STAKES (1000m)
Tough race with all bar one runner on debut. Liked the way USAIN BOSS (5) went about it in his Pakenham jumpouts and he looks professional. PALM ANGEL (7) is another that has impressed in her jumpouts and could show something fresh. TYCOON STAR (1) will be fitter for a strong Flemington win and has the benefit of race experience. ROSANGELA (9) was another promising performer at the jumpouts.
SUGGESTED BET: Small win bet Usain Boss if you must.
LADBROKES MARKET MOVER: Point Barrow $12 – $10.

RACE 3: 1:25PM VALE ELVSTROEM (2400m)
Another difficult race but the Sydney visitor KADAVAR (11) is a stayer on the rise and is unbeaten over 2400m while wet ground won’t worry him. DIVUS ROMULUS (15) will be fitter for two runs back from a spell and went well at his other 2400m outing. ALMA RISE (12) is a developing stayer that looks primed for 2400m. GRAND PIERRO (2) ran on steadily in the Ararat Cup and will be fitter.
SUGGESTED BET: Kadavar to win.

RACE 4: 2:00PM LISTED SPORTSBET TWILIGHT GLOW STAKES (1400m)
GRINZINGER POD (5) is ready to win after two excellent efforts in similar races this time in. DON’T RUSSIA (8) should have finished closer at her last outing and looks suited over 1400m now. SOUNDS FUN (13) is up in class for her second start but he debut win at Kyneton was encouraging. DEEP PLEASURE (11) was a narrow Kilmore winner second-up and could measure up to this.
SUGGESTED BET: Grinzinger Pod to win.

RACE 5: 2:35PM PREMIER SIGNS DOVETON STAKES (1200m)
GARZA BLANCA (8) looks well suited in this after a luckless but solid effort down the straight first-up at Flemington. He has a strong second-up record and races best over this trip. FANCIFY (3) is back in distance but will perform well after her Flemington success. IT’SOURTIME (2) is never far away in this type of race. I AM UNSTOPPABLE (1) will find this easier than his last run in the Champions’ Sprint.
SUGGESTED BET: Garza Blanca to win.
LADBROKES MARKET MOVER: Fancify $3.40 – $3.10.

RACE 6: 3:10PM GROUP 2 SPORTSBET SANDOWN GUINEAS (1600m)
STYLISH SECRET (4) will be fitter for his solid fourth in a good form race at Flemington, which was his first run for six weeks. SNITZANOVA (10) has impressed with her last two efforts in NSW and won’t be far away. CACHINK (6) is a developing type that could run well again. PISCES (2) was unplaced at his only other 1600m run but was an easy winner last start.
SUGGESTED BET: Stylish Secret each-way.

RACE 7: 3:45PM GROUP 3 LAMARO’S HOTEL ECLIPSE STAKES (1800m)
APULIA (4) was a beaten favourite at Flemington but the stallion will be much fitter for this outing. EARLSWOOD (10) should have finished closer in the Cranbourne Cup while SIRILEO MISS (7) led and fought on well at Flemington and could be hard to run down again. CHARTERHOUSE (5) was solid over 2000m last time and can improve on softer ground.
SUGGESTED BET: Apulia to win.

RACE 8: 4:25PM GROUP 2 QUAYCLEAN ZIPPING CLASSIC (2400m)
Even edition of the Zipping Classic but LITTLE MIX (15) could be over the odds after her strong finish over 2000m at Flemington. MANKAYAN (9) looked in need of more ground in the Kyneton Cup and gets it here. ARAPAHO (3) went well at Group 1 level third-up and is a Group 1 winner over 2400m. SMOKIN’ ROMANS (4) led all the way to win at Flemington and wet ground won’t worry him.
SUGGESTED BET: Little Mix each-way.
LADBROKES MARKET MOVER: Arapaho $5 – $4.60.

RACE 9: 5:00PM GROUP 3 MANHARI KEVIN HEFFERNAN STAKES (1400m)
TUVALU (1) looks perfectly placed in this contest after running on well at Group 1 level here first-up. Weight-for-age will be perfect for him. RHEINBERG (6) will be much fitter for his first-up effort under 61kg and WARNIE (9) has gone well at both Australian outings and will be improved. TAMERLANE (4) should be improved after going well at Flemington fresh.
SUGGESTED BET: Tuvalu to win/box trifecta 1, 4, 6, 9.
LADBROKES MARKET MOVER: Warnie $11 – $9.

RACE 10: 5:40PM GROUP 3 TILE IMPORTER SUMMONED STAKES (1600m)
Tough race to finish but ELECTRIC IMPULSE (7) is racing in great form and that form stood up at Cranbourne last Saturday. RUMBLED AGAIN (8) has drawn wide but her form has been better than it looks on paper. RUNNING BY (5) is going well this time in and should be respected again. POIFECT (4) could find this more suitable than her last outing.
SUGGESTED BET: Electric Impulse each-way.
