South Australian jockey Teagan Voorham sidelined after trackwork fall
Adelaide jockey Teagan Voorham suffered a more serious injury than initially thought after a trackwork fall during the week.
Adelaide jockey Teagan Voorham is set for a stint on the sidelines after a trackwork fall on Tuesday morning at Gawler.
Voorham, who has ridden 16 winners so far this season, was riding a Chris Bieg-trained galloper when the horse stumbled, with Voorham becoming unseated at the winning post.
Voorham was unable to undertake her riding engagements at Wednesday’s Strathalbyn meeting, and while the hoop initially suspected it was just muscle soreness, scans revealed more serious injury on Thursday morning, with Voorham suffering spinal fractures.

“I’ve got transverse process fractures in my L2, L3 and L4 in the left side, with a hematoma tracking through the iliopsoas belly muscle,” Voorham said.
“I honestly thought it was just muscle, the soreness and stiffness, yesterday I went to these plunge pools at a recovery centre, but my results this morning said otherwise.
“I’m up around walking, the doctor said I can keep walking in terms of exercise, but otherwise it’s just pain management.”
The hoop will return for a follow up appointment on November 8, in the hope to be cleared for a return to riding.
Voorham had been enjoying some strong form recently, riding a treble at Penola on Monday, the hoop also won the Rockhampton and Mackay Cups aboard Tasmanian galloper Hype earlier in the year.
• Sir Kingsford leads local charge in Gawler Cup
Voorham was set to pilot Gawler Cup favourite Sir Kingsford for the Searle and Callanan stable on Friday.
“(I’m) pretty gutted on Friday, it would’ve been great for it to be a bit of a fairytale on Sir Kingsford, I do a lot of work for the Searles and they’ve been really good to me,” she said.
“I’ll still be supporting him, but it’s just a shame it’s happened when it’s happened.
“That’s racing I suppose, it could always be a lot worse too.”
