RACING Queensland has appointed bright young legal mind Sam Adams as their interim chief executive as they search for a permanent boss.

Adams, 35, a former solicitor, will take over from outgoing interim boss Ian Hall after a year of controversy in the Queensland Racing industry.

Hall, who oversaw savage prizemoney cuts and the aftermath of the greyhound live baiting affair, did not have his contract renewed and will leave next week. Adams, a former BRC committeeman, will take over for the short-term and says he is looking forward to the challenge.

Adams handles RQ’s legal matters but has impressed plenty in racing since the RQ board upheaval last June.

â–  VETERAN Gold Coast trainer Noel Doyle cannot wait for the expansive Eagle Farm track to reopen for his talented but injury-plagued galloper Le Val.

Doyle has nominated the sprinter for a 1350m Open Handicap at Doomben on Saturday but may not run and instead wait for bigger fish to fry. The son of Snitzel has been regularly injured and had several major setbacks including a fractured pelvis, a leg injury and throat surgery.

The five-year-old gelding resumed this month when ran fourth behind Casual Choice in the Gold Coast Stakes.

Doyle is likely to target next month’s Listed Weetwood Handicap in Toowoomba with Le Val, but admits he is sweating on Eagle Farm reopening in May.

“He has won a couple of races at Doomben but I think he would be far better at Eagle Farm,’’ Doyle said. “Doomben doesn’t really suit him and he would love the big track of Eagle Farm. He is probably only running at about 85 per cent of his capacity but even at 85 per cent he is still a very good horse.’’

â–  A COBALT hearing involving Coominya trainer Lynn Paton has been adjourned for a second time.

Paton is facing a stewards hearing after two of her horses, Pink Chaperone and Doing Our Best, allegedly recorded cobalt irregularities after winning races at Toowoomba and Kilcoy last year.

A second hearing was adjourned yesterday so Paton could gather more evidence for her defence.
