GOLDEN Slipper-winning trainer Jason McLachlan will take an indefinite break from racing to travel and pursue other interests starting next week.
McLachlan was in a training partnership with his father Bruce when they won the 2009 Magic Millions 2YO Classic-Golden Slipper double with Phelan Ready.
He has trained in his own right since Bruce died in June 2009.
He has had considerable success with horses such as Saluter (Magic Millions Three Year Old), Enquare (Vo Rogue Plate), Absalon (Dalrello Plate), Facile Tigre (Securities Stakes), and Dieters (Coca Cola Plate).
“I am definitely not retiring. But I have worked in the industry 31 years straight without a break. I will be able to travel and pursue other interests which I have never had time for,” McLachlan said.
“I’ve seen a lot of changes in the game and not all of them for the better.
“However, I will be back training but I have no time limit on it.’’
Jason has trained 270 winners in his own right for earnings of $6.3 million.
McLachlan becomes the second big Queensland name to take a break from the game in the past week, joining Peter Moody, who decided to walk away from the industry after being disqualified for six months on a cobalt charge.
