Melbourne Cup Day 2023 results for every race: Ch10 star ‘numb’ after big win

A Channel 10 Melbourne Cup host has been seen absolutely gobsmacked after some extraordinary drama surrounding his horse.

A Channel 10 star wins big during Melbourne Cup day

More than $20 million in prizemoney is up for grabs across the monster Melbourne Cup Day meet at Flemington on Tuesday.

All eyes are on the 163rd running of the Cup from 3pm AEDT - but punters have plenty of action throughout the day with a stacked 10-race meet.

Vauban is the favourite to win the $8.4m, 3200m race, while Gold Trip is also considered a strong chance to pull off back to back Melbourne Cup victories.

The early drama at Flemington has been headlined by Channel 10 presenter and owner Michael Felgate winning a race on live TV.

Race 1 (10.45am) – Group 3 $200,000 Darley Maribyrnong Plate (1000mS)

First: Dublin Down

Second: Blue Stratum

Third: Odinson

International star jockey Zac Purton has started Cup Day with a bang, guiding Dublin Down to a win in the Darley Maribyrnong Plate. Purton is riding Absurde in the Cup today.

Race 2 (11:20am) – $175,000 Furphy Plate (1800m)

First: Forgot You

Second: Warning

Third: Sibaaq

Forgot You ($3.70) has picked up its first win in a tick over two years. He had to chase down runaway leader Sibaaq ($5.50), who was brave in sticking on for 3rd, behind only one-time VRC Derby winner Warning ($31).

Race 3 (12:00pm) – $175,000 TAB Trophy (1800m)

First: Warmonger

Second: Queen of Dragons
Third: Aztec State

A huge win for Channel 10 racing commentator Michael Felgate who watched his horse win on live TV.

Damien Lane piloted the horse to a photo-finish win over Queen of Dragons.

Felgate was visibly gobsmacked after watching the horse he part-owns take out the $175,000 race.

“A bit numb,” he said after being asked how he feels straight after the run.

“I hope you guys are alright for the coverage! Unbelievable!”

Channel 10 cameras tracked Felgate throughout the race s he cheered the horse to the line.

Race 4 (12:40m) – $150,000 The Schweppervescence Plate (1000m)

First: Wiggum

Second: Barber

Fairytale’s do exist. Damien Oliver has got a winner on his last Melbourne Cup day. The champion jockey piloted Wiggum home to win The Schweppervescence Plate.

Race 5 (1:20pm) – $150,000 The Macca’s Run (2800m)

First: The Map

Second: Mr Waterville

Third: Garachico

Jamie Kah has picked up her first win on Cup Day. The star jockey has been under pressure in recent weeks, but she proved in The Macca’s Run she is back to her best.

Race 6 (1:55pm) – $150,000 MSS Security Subzero Handicap (1400m)

First: The Maggstar

Second: Glint of Silver

Third: Platinum Wolf

Race 7 (3:00pm) – $8,410,000 Group 1 Lexus Melbourne Cup (3200m)

First: Without a Fight

Second: Soulcombe

Third: Sheraz

First: Roll On High

Race 9 (4:35pm) – Group 3 $200,000 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m)

First: Skew Wiff

Second: Foxy Cleopatra

Third: Forbidden City

Race 10 (5:15pm) – $150,000 Paramount+ Trophy (1400m)

First: Pascero

Second: Bermadez

Third: Chorlton Lane
