Melbourne Cup 2022 barrier draw, barrier stats and betting odds
A Melbourne Cup favourite has been dealt the worst possible hand after drawing the worst barrier in the history of the race.
The Melbourne Cup barrier draw has once again thrown chaos into the betting pool with second favourite Without a Fight dealt a brutal blow.
The dreaded barrier 18 has only produced a Melbourne Cup winner once and the barrier went down to the final few selections before it was plucked.

Sadly for the connections of Without a Fight it was their horse who will start from the dreaded barrier.
Deauville Legend, the favourite entering the barrier draw, only enhanced its chances by drawing nicely in barrier 9.
“I’m pleased. I didn’t want a very low draw and I didn’t want a really wide draw so 9 is absolutely spot on for us,” trainer James Ferguson said.
“With the pace being on the outside, they’re going to go some clip to get there so ideally we can get into a nice position early doors and we don’t have to work too hard to get there either.”
Two horses expected to push the pace along at Flemington on Tuesday drew the widest barriers with Serpentine (23) and Knights Order (24).
It means the pace on Cup Day could be extremely high as the two outsiders storm down to the first post to lead the field around the first bend and down the back straight.
The heavens are tipped to open up for the race that stops the nation which could also throw a cat among the pigeons for attendees and punters.
