FORMER boom colt Mogador gets his chance for an overdue stakes success when he kicks off what could be a big day for Godolphin at Doomben on Saturday.
John O’Shea also has Souchez (Sires) and Ghisoni (Glenlogan Park) as hot favourites.
The thus far under-achieving Mogador, who started $1.40 favourite on debut against Exosphere, will sport blinkers for the first time in an attempt to replicate his trackwork ability on raceday.
“At one stage last spring, John (O’Shea) put no more than a length between him and Exosphere,’’ Godolphin’s Australian manager Henry Plumptre said.
“He has always shown us to be well above average on the training track, but for one reason or another hasn’t lived up to those expectations.
“Hopefully he can get back in the winning groove here, because it’s a lovely race for him and he’s well suited by the weights.’’
Plumptre said the Stradbroke remains an option for Ghisoni if she wins impressively today.
“She needs to make the field first,’’ he said. “If that happens, then we will sit down and discuss it with the boss (Sheikh Mohammed) and decide if we run or not.’’
