Treasurethe Moment solidified her standing as Australia’s premier staying filly with an emphatic Sydney Group 1 debut triumph at Rosehill Gardens on Tuesday.

Matt Laurie’s boom daughter of Alabama Express chalked up her second three-year-old major and seventh straight victory in the Group 1 $750,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).

Sent out as a red-hot $1.40 favourite, Treasurethe Moment lived up to the hype to salute as she added to her Group 1 VRC Oaks success at Flemington in the spring.

“She’s a dream horse,” Laurie said.

“She’ll learn a lot today. I think she got a little bit lost. She didn’t have that trail. They spread out enough and she was sitting out on a limb with nothing really there to follow.

“Looked a little bit lost but when she got into it she was really good late so she’s only going to be better for the experience.

“It is great to win another Group 1 and great to win one for Yulong.”

Treasurethe Moment didn’t get it all her own way with VRC Oaks runner-up Powers Of Opal ($26) getting her rivals chasing as they made the turn.

But jockey Damian Lane was eventually able to take Treasurethe Moment through her gears in the straight, moving clear over the concluding stages to score by 1¼ lengths from fellow Victorian Benagil.

Declichy Boulevard ($11) was a further two lengths away in third.

“She’s very uncomplicated,” jockey Damian Lane said.

“She went to the barriers well and she has trained on her Sydney leg.

“The race worked out well. She didn’t love the heavy ground but because she’s so honest she just kept on keeping on.

“On the softer ground she didn’t quicken as well as what she normally would but she’s so honest and I think she’ll handle whatever you throw at her.

“She’ll excel, though, on firm ground.”

Treasurethe Moment was slashed from $2.30 into $1.70 favouritism for Saturday week’s Group 1 $1m Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick.

It’s been close to two decades since a filly has claimed the VRC-ATC Oaks double with Serenade Rose (2005-06) the last to accomplish the feat.

Laurie expects she will take a power of beating again in the fillies feature.

“She is proven at that distance and she’s going to lap it up,” he said.

“She’s just got better and better.

“We have been here for nearly a fortnight and she lost a little bit of weight on the way up and wasn’t completely settled but as we got deeper, she got better and better and I was pleased with her today.”

“Ten days into the Oaks will be perfect.”
