Jaimi Kenny dead: Scammers set up dodgy fundraiser after tragedy

A fake fundraiser pretending to be for Jaimi Kenny’s grief-stricken family has been wiped from the internet after her mum issued a furious warning.

The dodgy Jaimi Kenny fundraiser, set up by internet scammers, appears to have been wiped from the internet following furious public appeals from Lisa Curry and her husband.

Jaimi, the oldest daughter of former Olympians Grant Kenny and Ms Curry, died in hospital on Monday morning after losing her battle with a long-term illness.

However less than two days into grieving her beloved child, Ms Curry was forced to take to social media to call out a sickening donation scam.

“SOME PEOPLE !!! Someone has started a go fund me page on Mark Andrew Tabone FB page.... this is NOT US,” Ms Curry wrote on Facebook yesterday afternoon.

“It’s also sending friend requests. PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANYTHING FROM THIS FAKE ACCOUNT.”

Ms Curry’s post was shared hundreds of times with more than 200 people commenting on the post and apologising to the former Olympian for having to deal with it during her period of mourning.

Ms Curry’s second husband Mark Tabone said he had reported the fake profile to Facebook yesterday after the scammer started to send friend requests to people he knew.

“There has been an account created on Facebook cloned as me, Do Not accept friendship or Go Fund me, we did not do this! I’m reporting to Facebook it’s disgusting,” Mr Tabone wrote.

Evidence of the dodgy fundraiser appears to be have been wiped from Donor Box and the fake Facebook profile is also nowhere to be seen.

Ms Curry and Mr Kenny announced their daughter’s death in a joint statement on Monday night, revealing she had “lost her battle with a long-term illness and passed away peacefully in hospital this morning in the company of loving family”.

News.com.au understands the 33-year-old had been receiving treatment for an eating disorder for years at Sunshine Coast private clinic End ED.

Friends and family continue to pay tribute to Jaimi with hundreds taking to social media to mourn her loss.

Ms Curry took to Instagram this morning, saying she could “barely breathe” after losing her daughter.

“Our hearts are completely broken,” she wrote. “Our beautiful daughter Jaimi has lost her battle with a long-term illness and passed away peacefully in hospital yesterday morning with her loving family by her side.

“So loved. So beautiful. So kind to everyone … So painful. I can barely breathe.

“Jaimi will forever be remembered as a caring, bright and loving soul who always put others before herself. Her love of flowers, cooking, art, decorating, photography, babies, the beach, and helping others will always be remembered.

“Our hearts are broken and the pain is unbearable but we cherish every wonderful moment we got to share with our treasured and so loved first child.”

Jett Kenny, Jaimi’s younger brother, paid tribute yesterday saying “the world lost one of its treasures yesterday but heaven gained one”.

His Instagram post, which has been liked by thousands of people, was deeply personal.

“I may not have been the best brother to you all the time, I know you thought you weren’t being the big sister I needed all the time, but I do know we loved one another unconditionally all the time,” he wrote.

Jaimi’s younger sister Morgan also penned an emotional post this morning.
