It wasn’t exactly a damsel in distress — but that didn’t matter to Nick Cummins.

The former Wallabies star posted a video to social media this week of him rescuing a sheep that had become stuck in a barbed wire fence.

Driving along and seeing the agitated sheep bucking around with its head on one side of the fence but its body on the other, Cummins leapt into gear. He pulled over and did his best to calm the animal down before getting to work.

The 33-year-old tried to wrangle the sheep’s head back through a gap in the wire — which he eventually managed — but that was just the start. Next up was how to get the ewe over the other side of the fence, where he wanted to be.

The fence was too long to walk until finding a gap in the wire, so Cummins decided to hoist his new mate up and try to throw him over.

“Usually they go into a hypnotised state when you have them like this,” the rugby star said as he clasped the front legs together in one hand and the back legs together in the other.

Cummins changed tack slightly and pulled the sheep up as if he was about to crack its back, then swung the four-legged fella over to successfully drop him on the other side of the fence.

The sheep was grateful for the help, running off into the distance towards freedom.

“You’re welcome,” Cummins joked at the end of the video.

Ever the larrikin, he captioned the clip: “Sheepish! In NZ this would have gone down very differently.”

Cummins played 15 Tests for the Wallabies and represented the Western Force 87 times in Super Rugby.

After finishing his professional rugby career, he starred in the 2018 season of The Bachelor causing controversy when he chose not to pick a winner and go home alone.
