Dane Swan censored over Nadia Bartel jokes at Brownlow Medal
Nobody was safe as Dane Swan once again starred on Brownlow Medal night — but some gags were off limits for the AFL great.
There’s the red carpet and all the awards but the real highlight of the Brownlow Medal is Dane Swan’s tweets.
The former Collingwood star did his annual takeover of Sportsbet’s social media account to live tweet the AFL’s night of nights and as usual, nobody was safe.

However, Swan didn’t have everything his own way. The 37-year-old said the jokes he wanted to make about Nadia Bartel — the ex-wife of Geelong legend Jimmy Bartel who was recently seen on video snorting a white powder — were rejected by those at the betting agency in charge of quality control.
“PSA: I’m getting a lot of Nadia gags knocked back tonight,” Swan tweeted.
Footy players’ fashion choices came under fire as Swan paid particular attention to Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe and Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver, who finished third in the Brownlow count with 31 votes behind Marcus Bontempelli (33) and winner Ollie Wines (36).
“Nice of Tarocash to kit out Petracca and Oliver tonight,” Swan wrote. “What is going on with Clayton Oliver’s hair? Aren’t barbers open in WA?
“Can vouch for winning a Brownlow makes you infinitely better looking. Guess nothing is changing for Clayton Oliver then.
“When did Nat Fyfe join the John Butler Trio?”

Western Australia has been shut off to the rest of the country during the pandemic and didn’t escape Swan’s wrath. Nor did those responsible for the music at Sunday night’s ceremony.
“Big thanks to the country of WA for hosting AFL’s night of nights,” Swan tweeted.
“Once the borders are open, WA can keep this band.
“Where’s Meatloaf when you need him?!”
Swan’s been critical of the lockdown in Victoria and he wasn’t in the mood for any unnecessary time wasting.
“The making of the medal, there’s 90 seconds of your life you’ll never get back!” he tweeted.
“This night is dragging on so long, we’re going to need (host) Hamish (McLachlan) to give us a roadmap to get out of it.”
Some players were on the receiving end of Swan’s barbs for more than just their looks, too.
“Gary Rohan got more votes in that round than kicks in the entire finals series,” Swan tweeted.
“Anyone know why Matt de Boer was on that pre Brownlow package? I got more votes in one game than he has full stop.”
And Swan remained in fine form right up until the moment he signed off.
“Righto I’ve seen all I need to see tonight - can we bring back that band from earlier so I can get some kip?” he wrote.
“See you next year - hopefully we are allowed out of our houses by then.”
