Wild Raygun trend takes bizarre twist as Olympian does it again

Aussie cult figure Rachael “Raygun” Gunn has done it again with a crazy trend emerging about the much-maligned Olympian.

Raygun drops another bombshell

Rachael “Raygun” Gunn has done it again with a crazy trend emerging about the much-maligned Olympian.

The Australian cult hero has been celebrated and eviscerated around the globe since her viral bomb at the Paris Olympics.

Recently she’s been the motivation behind popular Halloween costumes, tattoos, statues and even touchdowns in the NFL.

The trend emerging this month may be the wildest one yet.

The 37-year-old has emerged as the hottest item one could use to elevate your Christmas tree decoration game to another level.

The breaker is spreading across the internet again — this time with Christmas spirit.

She has recently been seen in stores immortalised as a Christmas decoration, while she has also been a popular feature in other Christmas fashion and merchandise.

Luxury Christmas decoration site That Laser Shop lists one Raygun ornament at $21.99 — worth significantly more than Saint Nick himself.

One online outlet Spicy Baboon has Christmas sweaters inspired by Raygun and another ornament that shows her unforgettable kangaroo pose.

Word of the trend has made it back to Gunn.

“It is totally wild, I love all of the creativity, and the interpretations and the things that it has sparked off,” Gunn told Confidential at the GQ Men of the Year Awards.

“I have already seen Christmas decorations, I’ve seen a Raygun nutcracker and Raygun baubles … some of these are really nice and I want some, if they’re gonna use my image to use these beautiful things, can they at least give me some free copies and maybe some royalties.”

Gunn stole the show when walking down the red carpet at the event in Sydney on Wednesday.

Recently retired swimmer Emma McKeon also dazzled when she walked in alongside her partner Cody Simpson. Tennis champ Dylan Alcott, Olympic gold medallist Noemie Fox and AFL legend Eddie Betts also strutted their stuff.

Gunn has continued to make headlines in the wake of her Paris Olympics performances and has been linked to Channel 10 reality show I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.

A cryptic clue was posted by the network over one of the potential inclusions for the next season with many believing Gunn would be entering the jungle.

The potential inclusion of Raygun was not well received by fans of the show, who took their grievances out in the comments section. Some even threatened to boycott the show altogether if Raygun is cast.

“I’m boycotting the show if it’s Raygun.”

“I will not watch if ray gun goes into the jungle.”

“Geez I hope not, she’s not a celebrity.”

“Please NOT the ‘breakdancer’ Don’t make me boycott for the first time ever. Noooooo!”

Gunn however moved to rubbish the speculation of joining the popular reality TV series.

“I just don’t think reality TV is the space for me,” she said during a radio interview with Hit Network’s Fifi, Fev & Nick. “So I’m going to focus on things where I can really bring joy and to try and encourage people to be creative.”

Her life has in some ways returned to normalcy.

The Macquarie University lecturer, who holds a PHD in cultural studies, said last month she has returned to her regular employment at the university in Sydney’s north.

“I’m still marking papers to pay the bills,” she said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.

“I have a whole stack to mark right now,” she says.

“And I still enjoy research and being in the classroom.”

Despite speculation Gun was going to hang up her deliciously dorky Aussie lawn bowls ensemble for good, she confirmed in October she won’t be quitting the sport.

“I’m not retiring,” Gunn replied. “You try and stop me. I’m not ever going to stop dancing.

“So if you hear that again, you know that it’s not the truth.”
