Kyle Chalmers’ new girlfriend confirms romance after love triangle drama

Kyle Chalmers’ new girlfriend has quietly debuted their romance a year after the swimming star was at the centre of a love triangle drama.

Kyle Chalmers is dating a Norwegian swimmer.

Norwegian swimmer Ingeborg Løyning has confirmed she and Kyle Chalmers have been quietly dating for about a year.

Speaking to Norwegian news outlet TV 2, the backstroker revealed the swimming duo were a couple.

Løyning, 23, has moved to Adelaide to train in the same squad as Chalmers and prepare for next year’s Paris Olympics.

“Yes, we are a couple. We have been there for quite some time, since around December,” Løyning said.

“That is not the whole reason, but one of the reasons why I went down to train in Australia.”

Chalmers and Løyning have given small glimpses of each other on social media, but haven’t gone public with their relationship.

“We haven’t exactly been aware of it, but I guess there hasn’t been any need to show off the relationship,” Løyning added.

“Swimming is big in Australia, and he prepared me that there was going to be a little more pressure than I’m used to. But so far it has been quiet and calm.”

Chalmers is currently competing at the Japan Open and posted an early season time of 48.15 as he gears up towards next year’s Olympics. He swam the race wearing Løyning’s Norwegian cap.

The 25-year-old is trained by Peter Bishop in the same squad as butterflyer Matt Temple.

Chalmers is the current 100m freestyle world champion over both short and long course, and also holds the world record in his pet event in the 25m pool.

The 2016 Olympic champion was romantically linked to Emma McKeon in 2021 and tensions exploded at last year’s swimming trials and the Commonwealth Games over talk of a love triangle with Cody Simpson, who McKeon is now dating.

Chalmers has previously stated the Paris Olympics may be his last Olympic Games as he aims to get back on top of the podium after winning gold in Rio 2016 and silver in Tokyo.
