TEEN sprint sensation Isis Holt has added a Paralympic Games silver to her world championship golden double, finishing second in her T35 100m final.
The 15-year-old world record holder finished runner-up behind China’s Xia Zhou, clocking a 13.75s time that left her just 0.09s short of gold.
Zhou’s winning time of 13.66s was a Paralympic Games record, but Holt’s world record mark of 13.51s, set in July, remained intact.
“It’s pretty incredible. I did not come out here expecting to run that well so I’m very happy,” Holt said.
Holt, still a Year 9 schoolgirl, entered the final with the best recorded time in her class, having lowered her own mark at a Gold Coast meet in July.
The Victorian said competing on the Paralympics stage, against the world’s best rivals, was a vital learning curve in just her third year of athletics.
“They are all incredibly fast,” said Holt, classified through cerebral palsy.
“It’s great running against such good competition. It’s what we come here to do and they definitely delivered.
“(The run) reminds me that I can do anything and I hope that in the future I can come back and do it again.
“I think having run that well today it solidifies that. It makes me more confident.”
Holt conceded balancing the demands of training, schoolwork and teenage life was difficult.
“Sometimes I definitely feel like I’m missing out on a normal teenager’s life, but who would go for that over this? I wouldn’t change it,” she said.
Holt, who lists Usain Bolt as her hero, has a Rio competition schedule mirroring the Jamaican sprint king.
She was scheduled to run the 4x100m relay early this morning and will then concentrate on adding a Paralympic medal to the 200m world championship crown she holds.
“To be able to medal in those would be beyond incredible,” she said.
