SCHOOLGIRL Isis Holt was surprised when she won her first world title this week. Now the teen is “over the moon” after picking up another - along with a world record.
At age 16, the athletics sensation has now won four world crowns on the athletics track.
“It’s unbelievable. It’s just that I have all this pride, all this excitement – and a world record, I’m over the moon,” Holt said after defending her world title in the 100m T35 at the Para-Athletics championships in London.
Holt also claimed a world record with her time of 13.43s (+0.9) - just weeks after she was laid low in hospital with tonsillitis.
GIANT OPPORTUNITY FOR NETBALLERS
“I wasn’t even sure if I’d be here in London, so to be able to come out here and run a time like that, I can’t get over that,” Holt said.
“All day I was really excited to come out here and give it a second shot.
“I really wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but to come away with gold and a world record has really put my trust back in myself, and the process that we, as athletes, work so hard on.”
On another day of success for Australia, Claire Keefer won silver in F41 shot put for athletes with short stature.
Keefer came from fourth overall after her first throw to pick up the silver.
“I’m overwhelmed, I most definitely wasn’t expecting that,” Keefer said.
“I came in with an injury, and for that reason I never expected to finish on the podium.”
Jaryd Clifford picked up bronze in the 1500m T13.
Clifford, less sighted than his competitors in this race, said he was shocked to medal.
“It was a massive shock when I crossed the finished line,” he said.
“I was dreaming of it, but I don’t know if I actually ever expected it, and then I did it.”
