AUSTRALIA has maintained its top five ranking from London at the Rio Paralympics, winning 81 medals to finish behind heavyweights China, Great Britain, Ukraine and USA.

The Aussies won 22 gold, 30 silver and 29 bronze.

The tally was four less than four years earlier. The biggest difference compared to London was the lack of golds (22 compared to 32 in 2012) and the dramatic rise in silver (30 compared to 23).
