2016 Rio Paralympics: Aussie Isis Holt finishes second behind China’s Xia Zhou yet again
FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Aussie Isis Holt finished second in her T35 200m final, making it back-to-back silvers in the 100m and 200m in her Paralympics debut.
TRY telling Isis Holt silver is for the first loser.
“Amazing. I couldn’t feel better,” the Melbourne schoolgirl said.
“That feeling when I crossed the line was beyond anything I could imagine.
“It was one of the best outcomes that I could have hoped for. I tried so hard in that race and to have a medal, no matter the colour, is incredible.”
The 15-year-old finished second in her T35 200m final, making it back-to-back silvers in the 100m and 200m in her Paralympics debut.
In both events, she was beaten by China’s Xia Zhou, who also stole Holt’s 200m world record by 0.08s in the final, setting a new mark of 28.22s.
The pair were drawn directly next to each other after the previous day’s heats – Holt in lane seven and Zhou on her outside, in lane eight. They rounded the bend as the clear leaders, and Holt surged on the home straight to narrowly take the lead with 60m to race.
But Zhou kicked again and Holt, unable to find another gear, was resigned to second place.
“You never know what to expect when you’re racing, especially at a Paralympics,” she said.
“Anything can happen. Before now, I don’t believe I truly understood that.
“It’s a really good wake-up call and it will be great leading into the next Games.”
Fellow Aussie Brianna Coop, 18, finished fifth.
