Rare blood disorder Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia sidelines Melbourne Storm centre Will Chambers indefinitely
STORM centre Will Chambers has been ruled out of Friday night's clash with Wests Tigers because of a rare blood disorder.
MELBOURNE Storm centre Will Chambers has been ruled out of Friday night's clash with Wests Tigers because of a rare blood disorder.
The club said Chambers has been sidelined indefinitely after being diagnosed with the rare blood clotting disorder Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia (ITP).
The 24-year-old has spent the past 48 hours in hospital after seeing the club doctor on Monday. He was immediately sent to hospital for treatment and more tests.
Chambers is being treated with medication to resolve the clotting and will be monitored to ensure he makes a safe return to football. At this stage the club was unwilling to speculate on a time frame for his return.
Melbourne Storm GM Football Operations, Frank Ponissi, said the health and wellbeing of Chambers was of paramount concern to the club.
“The club’s focus is for Will’s welfare and health and we will continue to offer support to Will and his family,” Ponissi said.
“It has been a difficult and very worrying past few days for Will, however he is very positive about his recovery.”
Chambers has been a revelation since his return to the NRL from Super Rugby and the Queensland Reds. He has scored a try in every game he has played except one.
