NRL SuperCoach teams analysis round 13: Josh Addo-Carr retained

SUPERCOACHES enjoyed a double celebration after boom cheapie Josh Addo-Carr retained his spot at the Tigers, despite the return of James Tedesco.

SUPERCOACHES enjoyed a double celebration after boom cheapie Josh Addo-Carr retained his spot at the Tigers, despite the return of James Tedesco.

Tedesco’s comeback from a fractured shoulder was expected to relegate rookie Addo-Carr, but the speedy winger kept his wing spot following a brilliant second half showing against the Broncos on Friday.

With Addo-Carr retained, Jordan Rankin was the man to drop out.

Addo-Carr was purchased by almost a quarter of SuperCoaches last week and promptly rose by $75,000 after notching three tries in as many games.

SuperCoach Gold predicts his price will surge by another $58,500 this week.

In other SuperCoach news from the round 13 NRL team announcements:

* Popular SuperCoach buys Corey Oates (Broncos) and Cameron Smith (Storm) missed selection and are set to be rested following Origin.

* The Cowboys’ Origin stars were named to back up. This means Johnathan Thurston is set to play, but Javid Bowen missed selection.

* SuperCoaches can breathe a sigh of relief after Bryce Cartwright (thumb) was named despite pulling out as NSW’s development player.

* Konrad Hurrell looms as a SuperCoach buy for next week following his mid-season release from the Warriors. He was named on an extended bench but is set to come into the 17 at centre. Hurrell is a former SuperCoach keeper but is predicted to drop to the ridiculous price of $181,000 next week following poor game time at the Warriors. Unfortunately, Hurrell’s inclusion could come at the expense of SuperCoach cheapie Nathan Davis.

* Young gun Ryan Matterson looms as one of the buys of the week after retaining his halves spot at the Roosters ahead of Jackson Hastings.

* Former SuperCoach gun Shaun Fensom missed the Canberra 17 and is now a definite sell.

* Canterbury cheapie prospects Tyrone Phillips and Reimis Smith missed selection due to the returns of Josh Morris (Origin) and Will Hopoate (religious reasons).

* Popular hooking option Matt Parcell retained his starting spot at the Sea Eagles despite the return of Apisai Koroisau (ribs), who was named on the bench.

Raiders v Manly

Friday 7:45pm at GIO Stadium

Raiders: 1 Jack Wighton 2 Brenko Lee 3 Jarrod Croker 4 Joey Leilua 5 Jordan Rapana 6 Blake Austin 7 Aidan Sezer 8 Shannon Boyd 9 Josh Hodgson 10 Joe Tapine 11 Josh Papalii 12 Elliott Whitehead 13 Luke Bateman. Interchange: 14 Kurt Baptiste 15 Iosia Soliola 16 Clay Priest 17 Paul Vaughan 18 Junior Paulo

Ins: Brenko Lee, Clay Priest, Josh Papalii, Junior Paulo

Outs: Edrick Lee (Hamstring, Round 14), Jeff Lima (Dropped), Shaun Fensom (Rested)

Other unavailables: None

Comment: Shaun Fensom is now, sadly, a former SuperCoach great. He will be rested this week and is a definite sell. SuperCoach cheapie Luke Bateman is the big winner, named to start at lock and set for more rises. Joey Leilua (105) produced when it mattered last week and is the eighth most popular purchase this week, despite the looming round 15 bye and a break even of 99, which just goes to show how darn good he is going. Brenko Lee replaces Edrick Lee (hamstring, round 14) on the wing. Josh Papalii has been named to back up from Origin. Joe Tapine has been promoted to the starting side following his best game in the NRL, with Paul Vaughan on the bench. Jeff Lima goes back to NSW Cup. Mid-season recruit Junior Paulo has been named on an extended bench, pending his NRL registration.

Sea Eagles: 1 Brett Stewart 2 Brayden Wiliame 3 Dylan Walker 4 Steve Matai 5 Tom Trbojevic 6 Jamie Lyon 7 Daly Cherry-Evans 8 Darcy Lussick 9 Matt Parcell 10 Nate Myles 11 Lewis Brown 12 Jamie Buhrer 13 Jake Trbojevic. Interchange: 14 Apisai Koroisau 15 Josh Starling 16 Brenton Lawrence 17 Siosaia Vave 18 Blake Leary

Ins: Apisai Koroisau (Ribs), Steve Matai (Neck)

Outs: Matthew Wright (Dropped)

Other unavailables: Jayden Hodges (ACL, Season), Tim Moltzen (Knee, Season), Isaac John (Pectoral, Round 16), Jorge Taufua (Broken collarbone, Round 14), Martin Taupau (Suspension, Round 15), Feleti Mateo (Neck, Round 14)

Comment: Apisai Koroisau (ribs) returns on the bench, but popular SuperCoach buy Matt Parcell retains his starting spot. Jamie Lyon continues at five-eighth and former SuperCoach keeper Dylan Walker has been named at centre, where he has averaged mid-50s in the past. He could be a bargain buy at just $202,600 for head-to-head players, but not overall players given he is likely miss round 15 due to Origin. Jamie Buhrer has had a horror run of injuries, but returned prior to the bye to play 65 minutes for 64 points (including a try with no linebreak). He has been named to start at lock this week and could be a bargain at around $250,000 for the round 15 bye (BE 74). That said, Martin Taupau (suspension) returns in the same week and could steal Buhrer’s spot, so don’t jump the gun until you have seen round 15 teams.

Warriors v Broncos

Saturday 3:00pm at Mt Smart Stadium

Warriors: 1 Tuimoala Lolohea 2 David Fusitu’a 3 Blake Ayshford 4 Solomone Kata 5 Manu Vatuvei 6 Thomas Leuluai 7 Shaun Johnson 8 Jacob Lillyman 9 Issac Luke 10 Ben Matulino 11 Bodene Thompson 12 Ryan Hoffman 13 Simon Mannering. Interchange: 14 Nathaniel Roache 15 Sam Lisone 16 Albert Vete 17 Charlie Gubb 18 Ligi Sao.

Ins: Albert Vete, Charlie Gubb, Ligi Sao, Nathaniel Roache, Manu Vatuvei (Medical leave), Solomone Kata (Suspension)

Outs: James Gavet, Jazz Tevaga, John Palavi, Jonathan Wright, Matthew Allwood

Other unavailables: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (Knee, Season), Ben Henry (Knee, Indefinite), Sione Lousi (ACL, Season)

Comment: The Warriors now have a massive gap to their round 18 bye. As such, Jackson Hastings to Shaun Johnson (BE 65) is by far the most popular trade this week. Simon Mannering has a break even of 95 following injury-affected rounds and will be an immensely popular buy next week at just over $300,000. Bodene Thompson has a very handy 63 average, but is a huge POD at just 0.8 per cent ownership. Ben Matulino is in a slump, but could also emerge as a popular buy at $320,000 if he shows signs of a form reversal.

Broncos: 1 Darius Boyd 2 Lachlan Maranta 3 Jack Reed 4 James Roberts 5 Jordan Kahu 6 Anthony Milford 7 Ben Hunt 8 Josh McGuire 9 Travis Waddell 10 Adam Blair 11 Alex Glenn 12 Sam Thaiday 13 Corey Parker. Interchange: 14 Jarrod Wallace 15 Tevita Pangai Jr 16 Joe Ofahengaue 17 Kodi Nikorima 18 Herman Ese’ese 19 Jai Arrow

Ins: Corey Parker, Darius Boyd, Josh McGuire, Sam Thaiday

Outs: Jaydn S’ua, Greg Eden, Andrew McCullough (Thumb, Round 19)

Other unavailables: Aaron Whitchurch (Knee, Indefinite)

Comment: Origin players Corey Oates and Matt Gillett have been left out. Oates is somehow still in a quarter of teams, but should have been sold weeks ago. Darius Boyd, Josh McGuire, Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker have been named to back up from Origin. But faced with a trip across the Tasman, expect a couple to be rested. Anthony Milford is a risky VC or C choice this week — he has averaged just 56 away from home this year. Tevita Pangai Jr has retained his spot following 41 on debut and he pricks the ears as a cheapie. However, the Broncos don’t play in another Origin round again and his minutes are likely to be limited. There’s no sign of Jaydn Su’A despite a strong 52 in 80 minutes on debut. Travis Waddell comes in for an injured Andrew McCullough (thumb, round 19). Both Herman Ese’ese and Jai Arrow will travel to NZ with the team.

Cowboys v Knights

Saturday 5:30pm at 1300 Smiles Stadium

Cowboys: 1 Lachlan Coote 2 Kyle Feldt 3 Justin O’Neill 4 Kane Linnett 5 Antonio Winterstein 6 Michael Morgan 7 Johnathan Thurston 8 Matt Scott 9 Jake Granville 10 James Tamou 11 Gavin Cooper 12 Ethan Lowe 13 Jason Taumalolo. Interchange: 14 Rory Kostjasyn, 15 Patrick Kaufusi 16 Scott Bolton 17 Ben Hannant 18 John Asiata

Ins: James Tamou, Johnathan Thurston, Justin O’Neill, Matthew Scott, Michael Morgan

Outs: Coen Hess, Jahrome Hughes, Javid Bowen, Ray Thompson

Other unavailables: None

Comment: The Origin contingent of James Tamou, Johnathan Thurston, Justin O’Neill, Matthew Scott and Michael Morgan have all been named to back-up. This is obviously good news for Thurston owners. However, with the Cowboys up against the lowly Knights, Paul Green surely won’t take any risks. Javid Bowen misses out and SuperCoaches who chose him over Addo-Carr (The Stalwarts) are ruing the decision. Let’s hope O’Neill picks up a slight niggle in Origin and is ruled out, only for Bowen to carve up the Knights at home.

Knights: 1 Dane Gagai 2 Corey Denniss 3 Sione Mata’utia 4 Nathan Ross 5 Jake Mamo 6 Jaelen Feeney 7 Trent Hodkinson 8 Sam Mataora 9 Danny Levi 10 Daniel Saifiti 11 Tariq Sims 12 Pauli Pauli 13 Jeremy Smith. Interchange: 14 Tyler Randell 15 Lachlan Fitzgibbon 16 Josh King 17 Mickey Paea 20 David Bhana 23 Pat Mata’utia

Ins: Dane Gagai, Jeremy Smith, David Bhana, Pat Mata’utia

Outs: Akuila Uate, Korbin Sims (Suspension, Round 14)

Other unavailables: Chanel Mata’utia (Knee, Round 16), James McManus (Concussion, Season), Kade Snowden (Various, Season), Peter Mata’utia (Knee, Round 16), Robbie Rochow (Broken arm, Round 14), Jarrod Mullen (Hamstring, Round 16), Brock Lamb (Ankle, Round 19), Jacob Saifiti (Wrist, Round 14), Jack Cogger (Shoulder, Round 14), Will Pearsall (Ankle, Round 17)

Comment: It’s time to hop off Knights players due to their looming poor schedule, but popular early-season buys Daniel Saifiti (BE 2), Jaelen Feeney (BE 4) and Pauli Pauli (BE -49) should be squeezed of every last drop heading into round 15. Dane Gagai has been named at fullback but will need to pass a medical following Origin. Jake Mamo moves back to the wing, with Akuila Uate dropped to reserve grade. Jeremy Smith (bicep) returns from injury to replace Korbin Sims (suspension, round 14).

Storm v Panthers

Saturday 7:30pm at AAMI Park

Storm: 1 Cameron Munster 2 Suliasi Vunivalu 3 Cheyse Blair 4 Ryan Morgan 5 Marika Koroibete 6 Blake Green 7 Tohu Harris 8 Jesse Bromwich 9 Kenneath Bromwich 10 Jordan McLean 11 Kevin Proctor 12 Tim Glasby 13 Dale Finucane. Interchange: 14 Nelson Asofa-Solomona 15 Felise Kaufusi 16 Christian Welch Nichol 17 Young Tonumaipea 18 Matt White 19 Dean Britt

Ins: Christian Welch Nichol, Dean Britt, Young Tonumaipea

Outs: Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk (both rested)

Other unavailables: Billy Slater (Shoulder, Season), Richie Kennar (Foot, Indefinite), Will Chambers (Fractured foot, Round 19), Jeremy Hawkins (Hamstring, Round 16), Mark Nicholls (Hamstring, Round 15), Ben Hampton (Calf, Round 14), Curtis Scott (Calf, Round 14)

Comment: In a massive blow for owners, the second best player in SuperCoach this year — Cameron Smith — has missed selection. Ditto for Cooper Cronk, and in an interesting twist for SuperCoaches, Tohu Harris has been named at halfback in Cronk’s place. Let’s face it, with Mr Smokescreen himself Craig Bellamy in charge of the side, it probably won’t happen. But with a BE of 86, it’s worth holding off on Tohu for another week. Cameron Munster (elbow) is set to play despite picking up a painful injury prior to the bye. Start making plans now to free cash for Munster (BE 120) and Jesse Bromwich (BE 111) prior to round 15, if you don’t own them already. Kenny Bromwich has been named at No.9 for Smith.

Panthers: 1 Matt Moylan 2 Josh Mansour 3 Waqa Blake 4 Isaah Yeo 5 Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 6 Tyrone Peachey 7 Jamie Soward 8 Sam McKendry 9 Peter Wallace 10 Reagan Campbell-Gillard 11 Bryce Cartwright 12 Trent Merrin 13 Leilani Latu. Interchange: 14 Suaia Matagi 15 Jeremy Latimore 16 Chris Grevsmuhl 17 Sitaleki Akauola 20 Moses Leota

Ins: Chris Grevsmuhl, Moses Leota, Sitaleki Akauola, Waqa Blake

Outs: James Segeyaro (Dropped), James Fisher-Harris (Broken Thumb, Round 18), Peta Hiku (ACL, Season)

Other unavailables: Te Marie Martin (Shoulder fracture, Season)

Comment: Trent Merrin now looms as a must-have for round 16 after being left out for NSW. SuperCoaches can breathe a sigh of relief after Bryce Cartwright (thumb) was named despite pulling out as NSW’s development player. James Segeyaro has been dumped to reserve grade and appears to have played his last game for the club. With price drops of $64,500 so far this year and a break even of 83, he looms as a SuperCoach special if picked up by another club, pending bye schedule. Waqa Blake comes in at centre for Peta Hiku (ACL). SuperCoach revelation James Fisher-Harris (broken thumb) also drops out, with Chris Grevsmuhl to make his Panthers debut off the bench (keep on the radar for round 16), and Sitaleki Akauola and Moses Leota added to the interchange. Matt Moylan and Josh Mansour have been named to back up.

Roosters v Tigers

Sunday 4pm at Allianz Stadium

Roosters: 1 Latrell Mitchell 2 Daniel Tupou 3 Mitchell Aubusson 4 Dale Copley 5 Blake Ferguson 6 Ryan Matterson 7 Mitchell Pearce 8 Jared Waerea-Hargreaves 9 Jake Friend (c) 10 Dylan Napa 11 Boyd Cordner 12 Aidan Guerra 13 Sio Siua Taukeiaho. Interchange: 14 Isaac Liu 15 Sam Moa 16 Kane Evans 17 Connor Watson 18 Eloni Vunakece

Ins: Dale Copley (Pectoral)

Outs: None

Other unavailables: Ian Henderson (Broken leg, Indefinite), Shaun Kenny-Dowall (Foot, Round 13)

Comment: The Roosters now have the best bye schedule in the comp. Sio Siua Taukeiaho remains in the starting side at lock and is the fifth most popular buy of the week. He is a massive bargain at just over $300,000, with an impeccable bye schedule and the added bonus of goalkicking duties (at least until Michael Gordon joins the club, as rumoured). His ongoing minutes are a worry given the strength of the Roosters pack, but he’s far from the worst buy given his great PPM potential. Ryan Matterson is the cheapie of the week after retaining his starting five-eighth spot ahead of Jackson Hastings. Latrell Mitchell is a definite hold — at least until we hear more news on Gordon. Jake Friend is the second best hooker in SuperCoach behind Cameron Smith. However, while Friend has played 80 minutes for much of the season, the dropping of Hastings saw him play just 64 minutes last match, with Connor Watson filling in at hooker. With a huge break even of 124, this is a wait-and-see week. Dale Copley (pectoral) makes an early return from injury. Aidan Guerra moves to the back row, with Isaac Liu shifting to the bench and Eloni Vunakece relegated to 18th man.

Tigers: 1 James Tedesco 2 David Nofoaluma 3 Tim Simona 4 Kevin Naiqama 5 Josh Addo-Carr 6 Mitchell Moses 7 Luke Brooks 8 Aaron Woods 9 Robbie Farah 10 Ava Seumanufagai 11 Josh Aloiai 12 Chris Lawrence 13 Elijah Taylor. Interchange: 14 Sauaso Sue 15 Matt Ballin 16 Tim Grant 17 Dene Halatau 18 Kyle Lovett 19 JJ Felise

Ins: Aaron Woods, Robbie Farah, James Tedesco (Shoulder)

Outs: Jordan Rankin (Dropped)

Other unavailables: Nathan Milone (Knee, Indefinite), Rod Griffin (Knee, Round 14)

Comment: James Tedesco (shoulder) returns, but boom SuperCoach cheapie Josh Addo-Carr retains his spot and is set for more massive rises. Former cheapie Jordan Rankin is the man to drop out and he should now be sold after offering great service. Addo-Carr has also leapfrogged Justin Hunt (neck), who returns from injury in NSW Cup. Tedesco has a massive break even of 114. He is not an option until round 20 due to the looming round 15 bye, potential Origin duties in round 18 and another bye in 19. Elijah Taylor scored a very handy $20,300 rise last week and is set for another $23,100 this week. However, he should be sold before the round 15 bye to the likes of Jesse Bromwich, Tohu Harris, Simon Mannering, Jamie Buhrer etc. Robbie Farah and Aaron Woods return from Origin duty.

Rabbitohs v Titans

Sunday 6:30pm at NIB Stadium

Rabbitohs: 1 Cody Walker 2 Alex Johnston 3 Kirisome Auva’a 4 Bryson Goodwin 5 Dane Nielsen 6 Greg Inglis 7 Adam Reynolds 8 Tom Burgess 9 Cameron McInnes 10 Nathan Brown 11 Paul Carter 12 Kyle Turner 13 Sam Burgess. Interchange: 14 Luke Keary 15 Jason Clark 16 Jack Gosiewski 17 David Tyrell

Ins: Dave Tyrrell

Outs: George Burgess (Groin, Indefinite)

Other unavailables: John Sutton (Pectoral, Round 18), Zane Musgrove (Wrist, Indefinite), Angus Crichton (Groin, Indefinite), Hymel Hunt (Pectoral, Season), Michael Oldfield (Hamstring, Round 17), Samisoni Langi (ACL, Season), Aaron Gray (Knee, Round 15)

Comment: Dave Tyrrell replaces George Burgess (groin) on the bench in the only change. Greg Inglis and Adam Reynolds have been named to back up from Origin. To state the bleeding obvious, Sam Burgess is a must from here and the safe option as captain every week. However, despite their strong schedule, the Bunnies are very thin on bye buys.

Titans: 1 William Zillman 2 Anthony Don 3 Josh Hoffman 4 Nathan Davis 5 Nene McDonald 6 Tyrone Roberts 7 Ashely Taylor 8 David Shillington 9 Nathan Friend 10 Ryan James 11 Zeb Taia 12 Chris McQueen 13 Greg Bird Interchange: 14 Nathan Peats 15 Leivaha Pulu 16 Agnatius Paasi 17 Luke Douglas 18 Konrad Hurrell

Ins: David Shillington, Konrad Hurrell

Outs: Eddy Pettybourne

Other unavailables: Kane Elgey (ACL, Season), Matt Srama (Knee, Season), David Hala (Elbow, Round 14), Daniel Mortimer (Hamstring, Indefinite), John Olive (Broken collarbone, Round 20), David Mead (PCL, Round 19)

Comment: Mid-season recruit Konrad Hurrell has been named on an extended bench, but coach Neil Henry says he intends to play Hurrell at centre this week. Given his great SuperCoach pedigree, Hurrell looms as a brilliant bye for round 14 or 15. With a break even of 92, SuperCoaches should definitely take a look this week. Unfortunately, the emergence of Hurrell is likely to spell the end for cheapie Nathan Davis, although it may be worth holding on in case he makes the round 15 bye.

Bulldogs v Sharks

Monday 7:00pm at ANZ Stadium

Bulldogs: 1 Will Hoppoate 2 Curtis Rona 3 Josh Morris 4 Kerrod Holland 5 Sam Perrett 6 Josh Reynolds 7 Moses Mbye 8 Aiden Tolman 9 Michael Lichaa 10 James Graham 11 Josh Jackson 12 Raymond Faitala-Mariner 13 David Klemmer. Interchange: 14 Sam Kasiano 15 Adam Elliott 16 Tim Browne 17 Craig Garvey

Ins: David Klemmer, Josh Jackson, Josh Morris, Will Hopoate

Outs: Greg Eastwood (Knee, Round 17), Tyrone Phillips (Corked shin, Indefinite), Danny Fualalo, Reimis Smith

Other unavailables: Brett Morris (Knee, Round 16), Tony Williams (Hamstring, Round 14)

Comment: Will Hopoate (religious reasons) and Josh Morris (Origin) return, with SuperCoach cheapie options Reimis Smith and Tyrone Phillips dropping out. Keep Smith up your sleeve for the round 18 bye. Kerrod Holland has hit the skids and looms as a sell before round 15. Aiden Tolman (96) outshone the more fancied bye purchases last week with his first 80 minute performance of the year. James Graham is a hold until the end. David Klemmer and Josh Jackson have been named to back up. Greg Eastwood (knee) is out for a month, while Danny Fualalo has been omitted.

Sharks: 1 Ben Barba 2 Sosaia Feki 3 Jack Bird 4 Gerard Beale 5 Valentine Holmes 6 James Maloney 7 Chad Townsend 8 Andrew Fifita 9 Michael Ennis 10 Sam Tagataese 11 Luke Lewis 12 Wade Graham 13 Paul Gallen. Interchange: 14 Ricky Leutele 15 Chris Heighington 16 Jason Bukuya 17 Joseph Paulo

Ins: None

Outs: None

Other unavailables: Connor Tracey (ACL, Season), Matt Prior (Knee, Round 14)

Comment: Unchanged. Andrew Fifita, James Maloney and Paul Gallen have been named to back up. And with the five-day turnaround, they shouldn’t have too many problems doing so. Keep an eye on Jack Bird and Wade Graham as round 16 PODs.
