Eels rout all-time worst Broncos

Parramatta have romped into an elimination semi-final showdown with the Melbourne Storm on Saturday after humiliating the Brisbane Broncos in a 58-0 rout at Bankwest Stadium.

The statistics were astonishing as the Eels made 1825 metres to just 794m for the Broncos.

That was the best of it for Brisbane though and when Daniel Alvaro crossed for a rare try in the final minute the humiliation was complete as Brisbane slumped to the biggest loss in the club's 32-year history.

As if to rub further salt into the wound Manu Ma'u kicked the final two points in his final game for the Eels at home, his kicking technique was far from convincing but it didn't matter.

The loss was also the biggest defeat ever inflicted on the Broncos by the Eels, eclipsing a 68-22 win in 2007, was the biggest ever finals loss in Broncos history, taking over from a 40-0 rout at the hands of the Storm again in 2007 and was also the biggest ever margin in a finals game ever, besting Newtown's 48-point win over St George in 1944. The Jets won 55-7 that day

What's amazing is it should have been even worse for Brisbane because Mitchell Moses missed five shots at goal, kicking 7/11 conversions and missing a relatively easy penalty goal.

Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold was a shattered man in his press conference.

"I'm really disappointed and embarrassed," Seibold said.

"I'll wear it, I am coach of the club so it's my responsibility.

"In big games for what it's worth, that's where the Broncos are at."

Seibold stopped short of issuing an apology to Brisbane fans though, refusing to when asked if he would in his press conference.

While the Broncos were beyond bad the Eels were near flawless in the rout.

Cult hero winger Maika Sivo bagged himself a try scoring double as the crowd chanted his name, Moses did the same, his first try one of the best individual efforts of the season as he evoked memories of Broncos legend Allan Langer, kicking for himself with a grubber and scoring.

Sivo was his powerhouse self in the performance.

Dylan Brown also got a double for himself in the dominant performance with Blake Ferguson, Michael Jennings, Alvaro, Tepai Moeroa and Shaun Lane also scoring tries.

For the Broncos there was even more drama potentially looming with Origin forward Joe Ofahengaue put on report for a nasty high shot on Blake Ferguson, that nearly smashed the star winger's nose all over again.

For the Eels a date with Melbourne at AAMI Park next Saturday night awaits.

Absolute bloodbath in Sydney's west

The superlatives are flowing from the commentators as Parramatta have shot out to a 24-0 halftime lead and deprived the Brisbane Broncos of any meaningful possession in the first 40 minutes of the game.

Their opener to Michael Jennings was followed by a piece of individual brilliance from Mitchell Moses and then another try to Blake Ferguson in the corner.

The Moses try was all class as the halfback got the ball and kicked for himself before running onto it to score –

And it got the plaudits it deserved from those on commentary.

"What a sight," exclaimed Brad Fittler

"No one was watching – Darius Boyd he just watched Mitchell Moses, couldn't believe what he was seeing with the fullback (Anthony Milford) out of position.

Parramatta were not done though with the Eels scoring twice more in what AAP sports reporter Steve Zemek referred to as a "bloodbath" as the Eels ate up an astonishing 900-plus metres in the opening half.

They rounded out the first 40 minutes with tries to Shaun Lane and maika Sivo, and when the Fijian flyer went over in the corner all of Bankwest Stadium were chanting his name.

Roosters roll the dice

Sydney Roosters star Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will head to the NRL judiciary for the second time in a week after pleading not guilty to tripping.

Waerea-Hargreaves will on Tuesday night challenge the grade-one charge that threatens to rub him out of the club’s preliminary final in a fortnight.

Should he be successful, he will be available to face Melbourne or the team that wins the second elimination final between Parramatta and Brisbane.

If Waerea-Hargreaves is unsuccessful, he will miss one match. The Roosters prop was charged despite not being penalised for an apparent trip on South Sydney centre James Roberts in their qualifying final.

The charge normally attracts a fine, however, Waerea-Hargreaves has already accrued the maximum amount of monetary punishments this season. Waerea-Hargreaves’ fate will again be in the hands of the judiciary panel, having last week overcome a high-tackle charge to face the Rabbitohs.

Meanwhile, Canberra forward Joseph Tapine is set to avoid suspension despite being charged with dangerous contact in Saturday’s upset of Melbourne. Tapine was on Sunday slapped with a grade-one charge for an alleged chicken-wing tackle on Storm utility Brandon Smith in the 40th minute.
But he can escape a ban with an early guilty plea and be free to play in the Raiders’ preliminary final against South Sydney or Manly.
“It was accidental,” Tapine told AAP after the match.
“Brandon’s arm went back a bit and they said report for chicken wing. “We’ll have a look at it, there was no intention or anything, he’s a good mate. I hope it doesn’t cost me.
“It’s an important time of the year and some people get off with worse than that, so we’ll see.”

Canberra teammate Jordan Rapana was not charged despite being put on report for a lifting tackle on Storm five-eighth Cameron Munster.
