NRL 2020: Trent Robinson slams Broncos star’s dirty act
Roosters coach Trent Robinson wasn’t impressed with Bronco Joe Ofahengaue’s ugly cheap shot on concussed skipper Jake Friend.
Rooster coach Trent Robinson has hit out at Brisbane star Joe Ofahengaue after the tri-colours’ 58-12 win over the Broncos on Friday night.
Roosters hooker Jake Friend was knocked out in the 14th minute after copping some friendly fire from teammate Jared Waerea-Hargreaves as they attempted to tackle Ofahengaue.

Making matters worse for Friend, Ofahengaue then pressed his knee into the rake’s head while he was lying face down on the turf.
Friend never returned and the Broncos prop was put on report. Ofahengaue faces a week on the sideline if he’s found guilty of a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact to the Head/Neck charge.
Robinson didn’t mince his words after the match.
“There’s ways to be tough in our game and that’s not it,” Robinson said. “Look, that didn’t cause the concussion so I don’t want extra weight to be put on that for Joe.
“He was concussed from the contact (with Waerea-Hargreaves) … but as I said, there’s other ways to play tough in our game and that’s not one way.
“You don’t need that.”

Robinson said Friend was in good spirits and remembered everything about the incident, which was a promising sign, while Broncos caretaker coach Peter Gentle said he missed Ofahengaue’s alleged indiscretion.
“I watched the game from up behind so I didn’t really get to see it, we didn’t really have access to the incident,” Gentle said.
“They said it was a knee or something? I didn’t see it, I didn’t see it.”
After the incident happened, Waerea-Hargreaves blew up and demanded referee Adam Gee put Ofahengaue on report.
“Can you just settle down and it will be reviewed,” Gee told Waerea-Hargreaves. “Do not speak to me like that.”
