NRL 2020: Adam Doueihi laughs last in hilarious exchange with footy fan

A vocal footy fan stole the show on Saturday night before Tigers star Adam Doueihi laughed last at the end of a hilarious exchange.

Adam Doueihi’s safe hands put Wests Tigers within reach of an incredible win over Manly on Saturday night before his boot sealed the miracle comeback.

In fact, the sharpshooter kept the joint-venture club in the contest right up until the death, when he converted his own try from a Luke Brooks chip to deliver an upset 34-32 victory at Lottoland.

The result seemed a world away when the Tigers trailed by 14 points with 12 minutes to play but three late tries — including two to Doueihi — sent Sea Eagles fans home in a miserable mood.

Doueihi was clutch in the tight moments, kicking multiple conversions from out wide even when under pressure from more than just the game situation.

All night the 22-year-old, shifted from fullback to the centres as coach Michael Maguire reshuffled the Tigers’ backline, was receiving some friendly kicking advice from beyond the advertising boards on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

One exchange in particular with a vocal fan would put a smile on anyone’s face, regardless of whether your team won or lost.

Lining up for a kick from the right wing, a voice was heard yelling out some very specific instructions.

Adam Doueihi wasn’t going to be distracted.

“You’ve gotta kick it right, Doueihi,” the enthusiastic spectator yelled. “You’ve gotta kick it right because it’s going left.

“You’re pointing it to the left! I’m telling you, you’re pointing it to the left!

“You’ve gotta compensate! Compensaaaate!”

Doueihi started his run-up but the ball fell off the tee, so he had to reset.

“You’ve put it too far right now! You’ve gotta kick it left!” the supporter offered when the Tigers star was ready to go again.

Doueihi trusted his instincts and after starting the ball just outside the left upright, it bent back to the right and sailed between the posts.

The young gun nailed the conversion, then turned to the fan and managed a wry smile before jogging back to join his teammates on the other side of halfway.

It was a helluva way to enjoy the last laugh.
