IT’S not hard to make people laugh when you’re two of the greatest icons in the room — but Norm Provan and Arthur Summons went the extra mile.

They are the two players — known as the “Gladiators” — immortalised in the NRL premiership trophy, embracing each other while caked in mud after the 1963 Grand Final.

The two had a hilarious bit of back-and-forth banter on live TV before they announced the winner of their award — much to the amusement of the audience.

“I’ll be around forever,” the 83-year-old Provan said as he got to the podium.

When asked what it was like to host an award with his good mate from yesteryear, Summons replied: “He’s dumped me for the last couple of years, I’ve had to carry the bloody baton.”

“He (also) destroyed my nose 53 years ago — none of you were born,” he exclaimed to the crowd.

When asked who he wanted to win the Grand Final this weekend, Summons replied with hilarious indifference: “I don’t care really — except down that St George way gives me the s**ts.”

“He’s got me now,” Provan said as the audience erupted in laughter.

Before Provan and Summons took the stage, the attention was on Aaron Woods and his bold fashion statement. The Wests Tigers and NSW Blues prop sported his typical Dally M headband in pure style — much to the amusement of fans.

DALLY M AWARD WINNERS

Jason Taumalolo and Cooper Cronk took home a joint Dally M medal after a nail-bitingly close tally count ended with the Storm’s halfback and the Cowboy’s forward equalling each other on 26 points.

Taumalolo had a season most forwards can only dream of — raking in a total of 562 tackles, 386 hitups and 3977 running metres.

Cronk had a blockbuster season beside Cameron Smith to send Melbourne to the top of the ladder once again — but the job isn’t done yet.

The Sharks will take on the Storm at ANZ Stadium on Sunday to decide the premiership in front a sell-out crowd.

If the Sharks win, it will be their first premiership since joining the NRL in 1967.
