‘Is he drunk?’ Blake Ferguson loses the plot against Tigers

Blake Ferguson endured the first half from hell as the winger was mocked for spending more time on his backside than his feet.

Blake Ferguson rode a rollercoaster as Parramatta clinched a wild 36-22 over the Wests Tigers on Easter Monday.

The Eels winger had a horrendous first half under the high ball before rebounding with two tries in the second stanza as Brad Arthur’s troops held off a fast-finishing Tigers outfit that threatened to come from behind and steal the match at the death.

It started on the worst possible note for Ferguson, who absolutely butchered the opening kick off. He positioned himself to take the first possession, but fell over and the ball bounced behind him, before a teammate dropped the loose ball to hand the Tigers an early gift.

Ferguson caught a bomb soon after but again lost his feet in comical fashion. He coughed up two more knock-ons from high balls — one of which led to a Tigers try as they pounced on the Steeden to cross the stripe.

Fox League presenter Yvonne Sampson said at halftime: “It was bombs away all first half on Blake Ferguson.

“They’re going to have to work this out pretty quickly, they’re going to have to get the sticky spray.”

Analyst Braith Anasta added: “I shouldn’t laugh because he looked terrible under the high ball. Usually he’s so safe.”

Former Sri Lankan cricketer and avid Wests Tigers fan Russell Arnold tweeted “Is Blake Ferguson drunk?” with several laughing/crying emojis.

Ferguson wiped the horror first half from his memory.

Ferguson was all smiles after the match though, laughing off his string of mistakes.

“I’ve got a memory like a goldfish, I forgot all about them,” he told Fox League.

“Stay in the moment. What’s the most important thing you can do now, what’s in front of you.

“I try to stay in the game and just don’t dwell on that type of stuff. It’s bad when you start thinking about stuff that happened 10 minutes ago and it creeps into your game.

“Get rid of it and move on.”

Parramatta scored the opening three tries of the match before Daine Laurie sliced through for the Tigers and Stefano Utoikamanu capitalised on one of Ferguson’s howlers.

The Eels extended their lead and looked in control with two more tries before Adam Doueihi and Jacob Liddle reduced the deficit to just two with nine minutes remaining.

However, Eels skipper Clint Gutherson crossed after picking up a Ferguson kick and the winger completed his redemption when his second four-pointer of the match in the 80th minute put the icing on his side’s fourth straight win.
