Sebastian Vettel has finally done it - breaking through at the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix for his first win in the F1 since the Belgian Grand Prix in 2018.
The result is also incredible for Ferrari with Charles Leclerc held to second, the first time the team have won three straight races since 2008.
It was a bizarre race with three safety cars making it a slow race but Vettel, who took the lead when the top four drivers pitted before the 30th lap, held off his young teammate Leclerc for the huge win. Red Bull's Max Verstappen finished third with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton held to fourth.
It wasn't the most brilliant racing of the season with the three safety cars making it tight but stop-start.
It was also a weird race with Haas' Kevin Magnussen, who finished 17th, the last of the drivers to finish the race, claiming the fastest lap.
Sky Sports' Martin Brundle said "It's been all rather bizarre."
It was rather cold scenes after the race with Leclerc, who won the previous two races, was held off and was given the preferred strategy for the race.
Post-race, Ferrari principal Mattia Binotto came on the radio for Leclerc and appeared to congratulate him young charge but was met with silence from Leclerc.
There are two very different emotions on those faces.
Brundle said it was going to be a cold in the Ferrari garage despite the incredible result.
"There are going to be some interesting conversations after the race as Charles Leclerc obviously feels that win was snatched away from him," he said.
"But for the decisions and strategy they took, and especially through the traffic when it mattered, Vettel did a good job."
After the second safety car, Leclerc said the strategy was not fair.
"I won't do anything stupid, it's not my goal," Leclerc said over the team radio, clearly trying to calm the youngster. "I want us to finish one-two, I just don't think it's fair."
With fireworks going on around the track, Leclerc celebrated with a trademark No. 1 finger in the air.
Vettel and Leclerc came together and congratulated each other with a handshake and quick hug but didn't seem to have much to say to each other.
In the post-race interview Vettel said "it was incredible to get so much support" which helped him get to the win.
Sebastian Vettel claimed his first win in over a year.
Asked about the strategy behind the win, Vettel said he got the call late from his team.
"It was a very late call, I thought it was a bit early because I wasn't sure whether we could make the tyres last in the second stint," Vettel said. "Then I just gave it everything in the out lap because I saw the cars in front of me not pitting, especially Lewis. I was quite surprised a lap later to come out ahead."
Leclerc towed the team line after the result.
"It's always difficult to lose a win like that, but at the end it's a one-two for the team, so I'm very happy for that," he said. "It's the first time for the season so all the guys deserve it. Disappointed on my side as anyone would be, but sometimes it goes that way."
In the cool down room, it was pretty quiet between the teammates. While they didn't need to get some fluids in it was still awkward.
"I lucked into 10 podiums in my F1 career and they were all a lot happier than that," Brundle said.
Awkward.
David Croft added: "You could hear a pin drop in there. It's quite clear that Charles Leclerc is not going to start making enemies and causing a scene but he doesn't really want to engage his teammate there in any sort of way does he?"
Speaking on Sky Sports in the Paddock after the race, Leclerc said he was frustrated but understood.
"You don't see the full situation as a driver, you only see your situation, so it's very difficult to know who was pitting behind," Leclerc said. "Obviously for me, I couldn't have asked for anything more than I did. I obviously didn't expect Seb to pass me and it was frustrating from the car but I also completely understand why this decision has been taken, it's for the good of the team. But it's hard to understand in the car. It's frustrating.
"I did not expect the undercut but it's life, sometimes it goes that way. I'm happy for the team anyway."
Asked about any answers he needed to be happy with the decision Leclerc admitted he did have one burning question.
"The only answer I need really is that there was no other way for us to be first and second in the same order than before the pitstop, this is the only answer I need," Leclerc said. "I don't know if I could have stopped earlier, I'm pretty sure this was not possible otherwise I would have done that because you normally never undercut one car with the other on the same team but I just need confirmation."
Some fans were behind Leclerc.
Well done @Charles_Leclerc you are the clear winner of the race, I route for Ferrari but they always do this to their drivers,l. In the Ferrari bosses head you are driver number two, while we all know you are driver number 1 and not your fellow team driver...
Very happy to be wrong and see Vettel turn things around after #Monza and go get the win at #SingaporeGP! Despite my criticism of him of late, I am a huge #Seb5 fan.
After a second safety car when Sergio Perez ran out of power, it appears there is a huge race coming on at the top of the leaderboard.
With 13 laps remaining, it seems the Ferrari's are set for a one-two but Leclerc doesn't want to be two.
"I won't do anything stupid, it's not my goal," Leclerc said over the team radio, clearly trying to calm the youngster. "I want us to finish one-two, I just don't think it's fair."
Vettel, who would claim his first win in 392 days if he wins, was calm under pressure.
"You are doing a good job with tyres now, better than before. Well done," Vettel said, clearly happy being ahead of his teammate.
Sky Sports commentator David Croft said Leclerc is frustrated.
"Charles Leclerc is going to be frustrated because he hasn't got quite close enough to Sebastian Vettel to mount a challenge."
Crash sparks leader pandemonium
A crash between Williams' George Russell and Haas' Romain Grosjean have made this race very interesting.
The 35th lap collision happened at turn eight when the pair went wheel to wheel.
The Williams driver was clipped and slammed into the wall.
"I shouldn't be surprised," Russell said of Grosjean.
It's made it interesting at the top of the grid with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel unable to build a huge gap.
The safety car has made it very tight now with Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton now set to be right on their tails as none of the top six – including Valtteri Bottas and Alexander Albon – deciding to pit.
This could be the race
Lewis Hamilton pits in 2.4 seconds but comes out behind the Ferrari's and Verstappen.
26 laps in and it's shaping as another shootout between the big four of Vettel, Leclerc, Verstappen and Hamilton.
Verstappen and Vettel blink first
Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel have pitted after Lewis Hamilton reported he was feeling the tyre wear.
Charles Leclerc went the next lap with Vettel overtaking his Ferrari teammate.
Hamilton stayed out with his team telling him to go the opposite.
Hamilton will low likely come out way behind Vettel and likely Leclerc.
Although he will drop back when he pits, Ricciardo is up to fifth.
Hamilton looking to use the second to fifth ranked drivers as cover to build a lead.
Star's 'disastrous' Singapore nightmare
On the thin streets of Singapore, there surprisingly haven't been many issues on the opening lap.
Charles Leclerc went from pole to a little lead, while Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have reignited their battle.
Daniel Ricciardo pushed up four places to 16th.
But some niggly contact between Ricciardo and George Russell saw the Williams driver pit, while Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz both pitted with Sainz having already been lapped after just three laps.
Sky Sports commentator David Croft said "This is disastrous for Carlos Sainz".
A nightmare pit stop for Sainz means he's already a lap down 😩
He got a puncture with Hulkenberg sneaking up in a blindspot.
The pair contacted on turn five with Sainz getting worse damage.
