Close friend reveals major Michael Schumacher development
A close friend has spoken publicly about his prediction for Michael Schumacher’s health ahead of the release of a new documentary.
Michael Schumacher, the Formula 1 legend, will make a recovery, his close friend Jean Todt has revealed.
The 52-year-old’s condition remains surrounded in mystery with Todt repeatedly remaining tight-lipped as a result of the family’s ongoing wish for privacy surrounding his recovery.
Todt remains a close confidante of the family and has previously revealed he has regularly visited the motorsport icon.
Todt, the German racer’s former Ferrari boss, has now said he expects his friend will “slowly and surely improve”.
He told German newspaper Bild there is a positive projection for Schumacher’s road ahead.
The F1 legend suffered a head injury after a skiing accident in the French Alps in 2013.
The serious brain injury saw him placed in a medically-induced coma for months
Last year renowned neurosurgeon Erich Riederer said Schumacher was in a “vegetative” state while his Todt earlier gave a heartwarming update last year to reveal he visits Schumacher at the family’s Switzerland home up to twice a month.
The main reason for the mystery surrounding Schumacher’s state is his wife Corinna. She has barely spoken to the media about the seven-time F1 world champion and has been determined to keep his health battle out of the public eye.
She has now spoken to producers of the new Netflix documentary surrounding the F1 icon.
Heartfelt interviews with Schumacher’s family were revealed last month in the first trailer for a new Netflix documentary.
Corinna, and their two kids, Gina and Mick. F1 star Sebastian Vettel, Michael’s brother Ralf Schumacher and a host of figures who worked with Schumacher during his imperious career with Benetton and Ferrari have also been interviewed.
There have been few updates on his health over the years, but his close pal and FIA boss Todt has now talked about his hope that Schumacher’s condition will improve.
Mr Todt said: “I’ve spent a lot of time with Corinna since Michael had his serious skiing accident on December 29, 2013. She is a great woman and runs the family.
“She hadn’t expected that. It happened suddenly and she had no choice. But she does it very well. I trust her, she trusts me.
“Thanks to the work of his doctors and the cooperation of Corinna, who wanted him to survive, he survived - but with consequences.”
The documentary about the life and career of the F1 icon is set to be published on Netflix this month, The Sun reports.
The trailer opens with Schumacher himself, saying: “100 per cent perfection, I couldn’t live with anything lower.”
In the clip, Corinna describes her husband as “somebody special” as she talks movingly about their relationship.
Corinna adds: “I just felt that he is somebody special.
“I think that he is simply very strong mentally. Extremely strong.”
