Featuring in the documentary are the German’s wife, Corinna, and their two kids, Gina and Mick. Also appearing will be F1 star Sebastian Vettel, Michael’s brother Ralf Schumacher and a host of figures who worked with the 52-year-old during his imperious career with Benetton and Ferrari.

The trailer opens with Schumacher himself, saying: “One hundred per cent perfection, I couldn’t live with anything lower.”

Previously unseen home videos and rarely-heard interviews will also feature in the documentary.

The film was made in collaboration with the legend’s family, with Schumacher still receiving treatment for a serious brain injury he suffered in a skiing accident almost eight years ago.

Corinna, 52, references her husband’s health battle in the documentary, pointing to his mental strength and saying he continues to fight.

“He still shows me how strong he is every day,” she says.

Corinna adds: “I just felt that he is somebody special.

“I think that he is simply very strong mentally. Extremely strong.”

Netflix have promised to show a different side to many fans’ impression of Schumacher as a ruthless racing driver, with a more personal introduction to the man who won seven world championships.

His son, Mick, is forging his own F1 career and is currently in his debut season with Haas. In the trailer, he reveals: “When I look at him, I think, ‘I want to be like that’.”

Schumacher has not been seen in public since suffering a near-fatal brain injury when skiing off-piste in the resort of Meribel in the French Alps in 2013.

Since his horrific accident, the seven-time world champion’s health battle has been shrouded in secrecy, thanks predominantly to Corinna.

Schumacher was reportedly set to undergo a new stem cell operation last year to “regenerate his nervous system” as he continues to battle back from his catastrophic head injury. But the surgery was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year renowned neurosurgeon Erich Riederer said Schumacher was in a “vegetative” state.

In 2019 the family released an update on Schumacher’s 50th birthday assuring his millions of fans they were doing “everything humanly possible” to help him recover and were abiding by his wishes to maintain privacy around his condition.

“You can be sure that he is in the very best of hands and that we are doing everything humanly possible to help him,” the statement said.

“Please understand if we are following Michael’s wishes and keeping such a sensitive subject as health, as it has always been, in privacy.”
