Bryson DeChambeau’s long bomb is out of this world

Bryson DeChambeau’s incredible body transformation is the talk of the golf world and he provided a highlight for the ages this weekend.

Bryon DeChambeau is golf’s newest beefcake but even he couldn’t have envisaged his buff new physique helping him launch an incredible 428m drive at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut in the US.

DeChambeau has stacked on 9kg of pure muscle in recent times, transforming himself from a slender star into the sport’s own Incredible Hulk.

His length off the tee has been something to behold but he went to a new level on the weekend when his sweet connection — coupled with a healthy dose of luck — nearly saw him reach the green in one shot on the par-4, 467m 10th hole.

To the average golfer, that is absurd and it’s just as unthinkable for a professional.

DeChambeau cracked his drive and the ball landed on a concrete path wide of the rough, which added some serious distance to his shot. The ball rolled along the path for 97 seconds, helping him to what the stat sheet said was a 428m drive — the longest of DeChambeau’s career.

Unfortunately for the American, the distance didn’t help much because he needed to take a drop and ended up making a bogey.

That long bomb came after DeChambeau had taken on the ninth hole — a 389m par-4 with a dog-leg to the right.

Rather than set himself up with a drive down the middle for an approach shot to the green, DeChambeau opted for a shortcut as he launched his shot off the tee, over the trees on the right edge of the fairway to try and make the green in one.

The drive sailed a whopping 358m and although he missed the green, DeChambeau left himself with a simple chip and short putt to make birdie.

DeChambeau is tied for fifth at the Travelers Championship while Brendon Todd is on top of the leaderboard, two strokes clear of Dustin Johnson after both men shot 61s in their third round.
