Sydney FC have sold an A-League championship-winning midfielder to an Indian Super League club, while a former Melbourme City forward has joined Macarthur FC.
Sydney FC has confirmed the departure of championship-winning midfielder Paulo Retre, who is set to join Indian Super League outfit FC Goa.
Retre, 30, made 176 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues after joining them from Melbourne City in 2017.
“I’ve had a fantastic six seasons at Sydney FC and they will go down as the highlight of my football career,” said Retre, who won two A-League championships and an FFA Cup with the Sydneysiders.
“It is a fantastic club and there have been so many great people I’ve had the pleasure to play and work with.
“I’m sad to be leaving but this is a great new challenge which I’m looking forward to immensely, and I wish this great club nothing but the best for the future. I will miss it.”
The Sky Blues will receive an undisclosed transfer fee for Retre, who started his A-League career with the then Melbourne Hear.
Sydney coach Steve Corica said: “Paulo will go down as a great player and even greater Sydney FC person.
“He has played different roles and has always been exceptional, often without the recognition he has deserved. His commitment and club first attitude make him a true Sky Blue legend.”
Meanwhile, former Melbourne City attacker Raphael Borges Rodrigues has signed a two-year deal with Macarthur FC.
The 19-year-old Young Socceroos representative debuted for City in 2020, and scored two goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for the Melbourne club.
“I can’t wait to get started this season and continue my development with the Bulls,” Raphael said.
“I want to contribute to the future success of the club.”
Elsewhere in the A-League, former Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Matt Acton is set to return to Brisbane Roar, who have also appointed former Fortuna Dusseldorf and Socceroos gloveman Frank Juric as the club’s new goalkeeper coach.
