REPLAY: Australia beat West Indies to sweep series 5-0

ADAM Voges scored his maiden ODI ton to lead Australia to a 5-0 series sweep of the West Indies at the MCG. SEE THE WICKETS

Watson out for a duck

RE-LIVE the action as Australia completed a 5-0 series sweep against the West Indies with a 17-run win at the MCG.

10.33pm AEDT - WI ALL OUT FOR 257 (49.5 overs)

Needing an improbable 24 runs off the last over to win, Clint McKay proved too good for the West Indies, picking up the last two wickets as Australia won by 17 runs to win the series 5-0.

Adam Voges was the hero for Australia, scoring his maiden ODI ton to lead Australia out of trouble at 4/82 to set the Windies 275 to win.

10.28pm AEDT - WI 8/251 (49 overs)

One over to go, 24 needed. Two wickets in hand.

10.22pm AEDT - WI 8/246 (47.5 overs)

WICKET!

Darren Sammy looked to be keeping the Windies' chances alive, smacking Mitchell Johnson for two consecutive fours - and both pull shots.

But Johnson struck back, picking up the wicket of Sunil Narine, bowled for a duck.

Kemar Roach in, 29 from 13 needed.

10.18pm AEDT - WI 7/235 (47 overs)

Great over from James Faulkner, one wicket and just one run from it.

40 off 18 required.

10.13pm AEDT - WI 7/234 (46.1 overs)

WICKET!

Massive blow for the West Indies as Kieron Pollard finds the man in the deep.

The West Indies' great hope is out for 45 (62), caught by Aaron Finch at long on off the bowling of James Faulkner.

That leaves the captain Darren Sammy and the tail to achieve 41 from 23 balls.

10.11pm AEDT - WI 6/234 (46 overs)

Just seven runs from the past two overs from James Faulkner and Mitchell Johnson has made the task even tougher for the Windies.

41 to get from 24.

10.02pm AEDT - WI 6/228 (44.2 overs)

WICKET!

Devon Thomas is run out after a smart piece of work from Shaun Marsh and the bowler, James Faulkner.

Thomas hit it straight to Marsh at backward point and headed for the run. Marsh put in the bounce throw to the non-striker's end and Faulkner got back in time to take the bails off.

Thomas actually got past the crease with a dive, but his bat was in there.

The captain Darren Sammy is the new man in.

10pm AEDT - WI 5/227 (44 overs)

Six overs to go, 48 runs to get off 36 balls.

If Kieron Pollard (41 off 56) stays out there the Windies should get there.

9.47pm AEDT - WI 5/211 (42 overs)

Forty-eight balls to go, 64 runs to win.

A couple of big sixes - the first to Kieron Pollard off Xavier Doherty and the second off the next ball from Ben Cutting to Devon Thomas - have the Windies confident they can get this chase done and avoid the embarrassment of a 5-0 series sweep.

Aussies still favourites though.

9.38pm AEDT - WI 5/192 (40 overs)

Ten overs to go, Windies need 83 to win from 60 balls.

Kieron Pollard the key for the tourists, well set now on 26 from 45 balls and in form following his ton at the SCG.

Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard

9.27pm AEDT - WI 5/186 (37.4 overs)

WICKET!

Narsingh Deonarine departs for four, caught behind off Ben Cutting.

Deonarine was going for the big slog and only succeeded in edging through to Haddin.

Windies losing their head and the Aussies in the box seat now.

The visitors need 89 from 74, with five wickets in hand.

Wicketkeeper Devon Thomas joins Kieron Pollard in the middle.

9.22pm AEDT - WI 4/182 (36.5 overs)

CHARLES OUT ONE BALL AFTER BRINGING UP TON!

Johnson Charles brought up his first ODI ton with a lovely guide to third man for four.

Next ball, he's out, playing an ordinary attempted pull shot that barely reaches Ben Cutting at square leg.

Clint McKay gets his first wicket of the innings.

Charles will be very disappointed with that end. Massive lapse of concentration.

He goes for 100 off 121 balls.

Johnson Charles
Johnson Charles

9.16pm AEDT - WI 3/175 (36 overs)

Tight couple of overs from Australia, including one from the part-timer Aaron Finch, who conceded only two runs.

Johnson Charles on 94, Kieron Pollard 21.

100 runs to win off 84 balls.

9.01pm AEDT - WI 3/158 (32 overs)

We've already had Adam Voges score his maiden ODI ton in this match.

Now can Johnson Charles do the same? He's on 90.

Windies need 117 off 108 to win with seven wickets in hand.

8.48pm AEDT - WI 3/140 (29 overs)

Speaking of eventful overs... Johnson Charles gets two reprieves off the bowling of James Faulkner.

The first is a sitter dropped by substitute fielder Ryan Carters at deep cover.

Next ball, Charles is given out lbw and it seems it's Carters who's been given the reprieve - but the Windies review and he survives again as there is an edge and it is not conclusive as to what the ball hit first - bat or pad.

Charles to 80 not out after all that. Kieron Pollard with him on 10.

8.32pm AEDT - WI 3/129 (25.4 overs)

WICKET!

That's what you call an eventful over.

Dwayne Bravo is bowled by Mitchell Johnson, two balls after hitting him for six and three balls after he was dropped by Phil Hughes.

Johnson eventually gets his man with a late inswinging full-pitched delivery that crashes into the stumps.

8.30pm AEDT - WI 2/129 (25.2 overs)

One ball after being dropped, Dwayne Bravo smashes Mitchell Johnson over mid off for six.

8.28pm AEDT - WI 2/123 (25.1 overs)

DROPPED!

Embarrassing moment for Phil Hughes as he drops a high, swirling catch off Dwayne Bravo at cover.

Bravo was going for a thrash through the offside but hit is straight up off Mitchell Johnson.

Hughes had all the time in the world but didn't position himself correctly and was forced to dive at the last second.

FULL SCOREBOARD

8.15pm AEDT - WI 2/113 (22.4 overs)

WICKET!

Great catch from James Faulkner at mid off to remove Darren Bravo for 33 (50).

The West Indian has had a bit of luck with the aerial drive to the spinners of late, but not on this occasion against Xavier Doherty.

Faulkner gets down well to his right to take a sharp grab for a big man. Bravo had hit it pretty well.

106-run partnership broken.

8.09pm AEDT - WI 1/112 (22 overs)

Johnson Charles has woken from his slumber since bringing up his 50, smacking two fours and a six.

He also had a bit of fortune. Ben Cutting put in a short one and Charles appeared to edge it onto his arm before it was caught behind.

It was given not out and the Aussies reviewed. Hot spot appeared to show a little dot on the top edge but it was decided that the evidence was not conclusive enough.

Johnson Charles
Johnson Charles

8.01pm AEDT - WI 1/92 (20 overs)

FIFTY!

Johnson Charles brings up his half century with a ... you guessed it, a single. Three fours in the knock, 70 balls.

7.57pm AEDT - WI 1/88 (19 overs)

Other than two boundaries to Darren Bravo, the second a lovely charge and lofted drive off Xavier Doherty, the West Indies have stayed on top of this run chase without any full-blooded shots and certainly no risk.

Intelligent batting, but not the most exciting to watch.

Bravo is on 28 and Johnson Charles on away from his 50.

Required run rate: 6.03.

7.42pm AEDT - WI 1/63 (15 overs)

The West Indians doing it in singles at the moment.

In fact, the last time they had a scoring shot of two or more was way back on the first ball of the ninth over.

The required run rate has stayed steady though. 6.05 an over needed from here.

7.27pm AEDT - WI 1/44 (11 overs)

Steady start from the West Indies in this considerable chase. Johnson Charles has been doing all the scoring, moving to 31 from 48. Darren Bravo is seven from 14.

231 to get from 39 overs. Required run rate: 5.92.

7.11pm AEDT - WI 1/29 (8.0 overs)

Bad news for century maker Adam Voges.

He has not come out to field and won't return tonight because of a twinge in his left hamstring. He'll have scans tomorrow and is an unlikely starter for the final international match of the summer, Wednesday's Twenty20 match in Brisbane.

Nathan Coulter-Nile is fielding in his place.

West Indies moving slowly at the moment. Johnson Charles is 19 off 36 and Darren Bravo four from eight - his only scoring a shot a boundary punched through cover off Clint McKay.

6.59pm AEDT - WI 1/15 (4.6 overs)

DROPPED!

Yep, it's Aaron Finch who puts it down. Who else could it be after I just mentioned that he's been catching well this series?

Johnson Charles is the lucky batsman. The Windies opener got a healthy edge to the right of Finch at second slip, who dove low to his right and got two hands to it - put it popped out.

Clint McKay is the unlucky bowler.

Charles was on nine at the time.

6.46pm AEDT - WI 1/7 (1.6 overs)

WICKET!

Mitchell Johnson is in the mood again.

After ripping through the Windies' top order at the SCG, he's started with a wicket in his first over tonight.

Kieran Powell departs for two off four balls, poking at one outside off and edging to second slip.

Aaron Finch may not have had the best time of it with the bat of late, but he has been in great form with his hands.

And we're back. West Indies have been set the ominous task of chasing down 275 to avoid a 5-0 series sweep.

AUSTRALIA SET WEST INDIES 275 TO WIN

A maiden ODI ton from Adam Voges has carried Australia from considerable trouble at 4/82 to a very defendable total of 5/274 in the final game of the series against the West Indies at the MCG.

Voges finished the innings 112 not out off 106 balls, with James Faulkner scoring a more than handy 31 not out from 25 as the pair put on 81 in the last 8.3 overs.

Brad Haddin also played a crucial 43 from 45, putting on a 111-run stand with Voges that shifted the match in Australia's favour.

The West Indies face a huge task now to avoid a 5-0 series sweep.

FULL SCOREBOARD

5.53pm AEDT - AUS 5/255 (48 overs)

CENTURY!

Adam Voges has brought up his maiden ODI ton off just 97 balls and in trynig circumstances.

His innings has included 10 fours and a six and featured a game-changing 111-run partnership with Brad Haddin.

Voges is now in another key partnership, this time with James Faulkner, whose 24 from 20 balls so far has helped put Australia in position to post a very healthy total that did not seem conceivable at all early on.

Voges
Voges

5.40pm AEDT - AUS 5/222 (45 overs)

Adam Voges nearing his maiden ODI hundred, racing to 87 from 90.

The man at the other end, James Faulkner, has been throwing the bat at everything and to great effect. He's 11 from 11.

5.25pm AEDT - AUS 5/193 (41.3 overs)

WICKET!

The 111-run partnership is broken as Brad Haddin departs for 43 from 44 balls.

Kemar Roach picks up the wicket, digging it in short and forcing Haddin to top edge an attempted pull shot that he was trying to keep down.

It balloons to Kieran Powell at deep square leg, who takes the simplest of catches.

5.19pm AEDT - AUS 4/188 (41 overs)

Brad Haddin had a close lbw shout from Sunil Narine turned down but other than that, he and Voges have been in complete control.

The pair have brought up their 100-run partnership off exactly 100 balls - and it came with a big six from Voges off Dwayne Bravo wide of mid-on.

It was another big over for Australia, with 14 coming from it.

Voges goes to 69 off 78 with Haddin 39 from 43.

Tremendous fightback from the duo.

5.04pm AEDT - AUS 4/158 (37 overs)

FIFTY!

Adam Voges brings up his half ton off 64 balls. A crucial knock under pressure.

The milestone came up during a huge over for Australia, taking 14 runs off Tino Best after Voges smashed him for two fours through the offside.

Haddin has moved to 28 from 32 balls.

Adam Voges
Adam Voges

4.58pm AEDT - AUS 4/144 (36 overs)

Partnership building very nicely between Adam Voges and Brad Haddin.

They've lifted the run rate to exactly four an over and the Aussies will be thinking a score of somewhere around 240 is possible if these two can stay together for a while longer.

The pair have put on 62 off 71 balls.

FULL SCOREBOARD

4.42pm AEDT - AUS 4/131 (33 overs)

Australia starting to get a roll on now.

The partnership between Adam Voges (31 off 51) and Brad Haddin (24 off 22) is worth 49 and has come off just 53 balls on a day when Australia have struggled to score a decent rate.

Adam Voges
Adam Voges

4.31pm AEDT - AUS 4/114 (30 overs)

Back to back good overs from Australia as Brad Haddin hits the first two balls from Darren Sammy over mid-on with cross bat shots for four.

Ten from the over. Haddin has 16 from 14 and and Adam Voges 22 from 41.

4.27pm AEDT - AUS 4/104 (29 overs)

Ordinary over from Tino Best as Australia move past 100.

It started with a bouncer down legside that the keeper couldn't take cleanly. Two wides.

Another wide and a four off the last ball through mid-wicket from Adam Voges sees nine runs come off the over.

4.17pm AEDT - AUS 4/93 (27 overs)

Big partnership needed here between Adam Voges (14 off 31) and Brad Haddin (six off six).

4.04pm AEDT - AUS 4/82 (24.1 overs)

WICKET!

Dwayne Bravo gets his second scalp and it's a biggie - Shaun Marsh gone for 40 off 58 balls.

It's a good catch by the keeper Devon Thomas, who has to dive to his left.

Marsh was going hard after a wide one but could only manage to edge his attempted cover drive.

Aussies in trouble.

3.54pm AEDT - AUS 3/76 (21.2 overs)

DROPPED!

Adam Voges gets a life on seven, swinging hard at a cover drive outside off from the spinner Sunil Narine and the edge flies to Darren Sammy at first slip.

The Windies skipper has to move sharply to his left and gets both hands to it but the chance goes down.

3.51pm AEDT - AUS 3/76 (21 overs)

Shaun Marsh has been joined in the middle by his Western Australia teammate Adam Voges and the scoring is starting to speed up already.

Ten runs off that Bravo over, including fours to both batsmen.

Marsh is on 37 off 49 and Voges seven from 10.

3.43pm AEDT - AUS 3/63 (18.4 overs)

WICKET!

Kieron Pollard into the action again, with another clever catch.

Phil Hughes smashed a square drive in the air to point.

Pollard is able to parry the ball in the air with a strong right hand stretching upward - like a goalkeeper - and the ball came down nicely for him to grab with both hands.

Dwayne Bravo gets the wicket and Hughes departs for 29 of 61 balls.

3.33pm AEDT - AUS 2/53 (17 overs)

The fifty is up for Australia off 102 balls.

Slow going, but after being 2/2 this partnership between Phil Hughes and Shaun Marsh has been crucial.

3.23pm AEDT - AUS 2/45 (15 overs)

Signs now that Phil Hughes is looking to get a move on.

The left-hander hit two fours off Kemar Roach that over - another off drive all the way along the ground, a pull shot to to the ropes. They were the first boundaries he'd hit since getting off the mark in the seventh over.

Hughes has moved to 25 from 52, with Shaun Marsh 17 from 32.

Foundations have been laid. Now it's time to get on with it.

3.08pm AEDT - AUS 2/26 (11 overs)

Windies continue their fantastic start, with Kemar Roach and Darren Sammy making it difficult for the Aussies to get anything away.

Phil Hughes is 13 off 36 and Shaun Marsh 10 from 24.

Aussies batting at only 2.36 runs an over.

2.53pm AEDT - AUS 2/17 (7.0 overs)

Tino Best is angry with himself. And he should be.

Phil Hughes had failed to trouble the scorers after 18 balls, but Best gifted him the chance to get off the mark with a juicy half volley outside off stump.

Hughes took his opportunity, smashing it through the covers for four.

The next ball is even fuller and wider from Best, and Hughes hits it even harder to the fence.

Hughes is eight off 20, Shaun Marsh six off 16.

2.44pm AEDT - AUS 2/9 (5.0 overs)

Shaun Marsh and Phil Hughes trying to dig Australia out of a hole.

Marsh has six off 10 but Hughes has failed to get off the mark after 14 balls.

WICKET!

Aaron Finch joins his opening partner Shane Watson in the pavilion, out for one after top-edging a Tino Best delivery to Sunil Narine at fine leg.

2.25pm AEDT - AUS 1/1 (1.0 overs)

Cracking first over from Tino Best, digging it in and bowling with heat.

Only run cam from a no-ball. And the key man, Shane Watson, is gone.

2.20pm AEDT - AUS 1/0 (0.1 overs)

FULL SCOREBOARD

WATSON OUT FIRST BALL!

Shane Watson is out on the very first ball of the innings, bowled by Tino Best for a golden quacker.

Watson, taking over the captaincy from the injured Michael Clarke, attempted to leave the ball, which pitched just short of a length outside off.

But the bounce surprised the Aussie opener, catching the bottom edge and rocketing into off stump.

Perfect start for the Windies.

1.55pm AEDT

The West Indies have shown glimpses of what they're capable of this series but have not been able to put it all together on the same day, as is evident in Australia's 4-0 series lead.

The MCG will play host to today's fifth and final ODI, where Australia - minus captain Michael Clarke - will be looking to sweep the series.

Perfect conditions in Melbourne with a fast, bouncy deck expected.

Three changes for Australia: Shaun Marsh in for Clarke, Brad Haddin in for Matty Wade and Xavier Doherty in for Glenn Maxwell.

Watson takes over the captaincy.
