Big Bash League fixtures revealed, featuring historic first for Sydney Sixers
This summer’s BBL fixtures have been unveiled, with three-time champions the Sydney Sixers set to compete at a historic venue for the first time.
Fixtures for the 12th edition of the Big Bash League have been unveiled, with the historic North Sydney Oval scheduled to host its first BBL match this summer.
The popular T20 tournament will get underway on Tuesday, December 13, immediately after Australia’s day-night Test against the West Indies at Adelaide Oval, with a 56-game regular season plus five finals matches.

The Adelaide Strikers will again host the traditional New Year’s Eve fixture, facing the Melbourne Stars at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, December 31, while the final will take place on Saturday, February 4.
Because of Cricket South Africa’s withdrawal from January’s three-match ODI series, Australia’s international stars will be available for the second half of the BBL.
However, Australian speedster Mitchell Starc has already revealed he has no interest in signing for a Big Bash franchise this season.
“The KFC BBL|12 season is setting up to have everything we love about the Big Bash – great players, full stadiums of home fans and the best nights of entertainment anywhere this summer,” general manager of Big Bash Leagues Alistair Dobson said in a statement.
“This schedule provides the platform for that, with a mix of world class stadiums and regional venues, opportunities for player participation and all the marquee games that our fans love.
“This, combined with other exciting developments in including the KFC BBL|12 Draft for overseas players, make us incredibly excited for the season ahead.”
Meanwhile, the Sydney Sixers will play their first BBL game at North Sydney Oval this summer, facing the Brisbane Heat at the suburban venue on Wednesday, January 4 — after day one of the New Year’s Test against South Africa.
“It’s just a really unique place to play cricket,” said Australian wicketkeeper and WBBL powerhouse Alyssa Healy, who scored a century against the Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval in November 2020.
“It’s good fun as a Sixers batter being able to take on the boundary, and traditionally there has been some high scoring games there.
“It’s a great ground to play at, but I think – just as importantly – it’s a great ground to watch cricket. The fans feel really close to the game which is really important.”
Chris Botherway, Acting Head of Sixers, said in a statement: “This season’s Big Bash League will give our Members and fans plenty of opportunities to cheer on their heroes in person.
“The SCG has provided the backdrop for many memorable moments in our Club’s history, while visiting the Coffs Coast allows us to give more people a taste of the fun, fast, family entertainment of a BBL game.
“This year’s schedule allows our players the opportunity to experience the magic of North Sydney Oval, a venue held in such high regard by our WBBL stars. Apart from being one of the city’s most picturesque cricket grounds it is renowned for producing exciting cricket.”
Albury’s Lavington Sports Ground and Cairns’ Cazalys Stadium will also host their maiden BBL games this season.
