A spectacular juggling catch from Rilee Rossouw couldn’t save the Melbourne Renegades as they went down to the Sydney Sixers in a final-over thriller.

West Indian import Jason Holder was the hero, finishing unbeaten on 33 from 18 balls as he crunched two fours and a six to seal a remarkable two-wicket win with just one ball remaining.

The Sixers remained within striking range for much of the innings as they chased the Gades’ 6/168, but suffered a blow when Jordan Silk was out for 31 in the 18th over, with his side still needing a further 26 runs for victory.

Silk carved Will Sutherland to deep point where South African Rossouw made tough work of the chance. He dived forward to take the grab just before the ball hit the turf, only for it to bounce out of his hands and hit him in the nose.

Fortunately the ball bobbled back onto his forearm and rolled up into Rossouw’s chest as he miraculously kept control.

Fox Sports commentators and former Aussie stars Brendon Julian and Mark Waugh were rubbing their eyes in disbelief.

“You are kidding me,” Waugh said. “He can’t believe it, we can’t believe it.

“I thought he was going to spill it ... but he hasn’t.

“How has he caught that?”

Julian added: “I don’t believe that ... that’s unbelievable.

“How has he done that?”

However, the smile was quickly wiped off Rossouw’s face when Holder took the long handle to Sutherland, who got the yips and bowled multiple balls so wide they missed the pitch.

The West Indian skipper held his nerve when it mattered most and clattered the young quick around the park. Needing 16 to win at the start of the 20th over, Holder managed two runs from the first two balls before nailing Sutherland for two fours over mid-off from consecutive deliveries.

He did it again on the penultimate ball of the match, this time clearing the rope with another straight hit and celebrating by raising his arms in triumph.

Sutherland finished with the horrific figures of 1/57 from 3.5 overs as the Sixers took a liking to the medium pacer.

Holder’s onslaught came after Josh Philippe rode his luck to score a quickfire 48 from 30 balls at the top of the order before Silk helped stabilise things in the middle overs.
