All the naysayers death riding Australia after its loss to India should listen to American Mason Cox — because the man has a point.

The American AFL star admits he isn’t exactly a walking encyclopaedia when it comes to cricket but doesn’t think Australia’s loss to India is as bad as some are making it out to be.

India recovered from the humiliation of being bowled out for 36 in Adelaide to claim a convincing eight-wicket win in Melbourne and level the four-Test series up at 1-1.

The MCG demolition job leaves plenty of questions for the Aussies to answer before the next Test — chief among them, what the batting line-up will look like.

David Warner and Will Pucovski may be back from their respective injury and concussion concerns, meaning Joe Burns and Travis Head are under the pump to keep their spots in the starting XI.

Burns has looked like a walking wicket for whatever team he’s played with all summer, while Shane Warne has led the charge to drop Head after he again failed to convert promising starts into big scores.

But as Cox points out, there’s no shame losing to India when you consider the difference in population between the two countries. Nearly 25 million people reside in Australia while India has more than 1.3 billion people to choose from when selecting its national side.

It’s something Aussie supporters should keep in mind before overreacting to the loss in the Boxing Day Test.

“One thing I always find insane is how Australia is able to compete and win in sport against the world’s largest countries in things like cricket and the Olympics,” Cox tweeted.

“India’s population is 54x Australia’s,” he added with some shocked emojis.

Cox, who plays for Collingwood, spent the AFL season in a quarantine hub on the Gold Coast as COVID-19 wreaked havoc on Melbourne.

He might not know much about leg byes and wrong-uns but the US star loves his sport and he was just happy to see something back at the MCG after a tough year.

“I don’t know a damn thing about Cricket but it is awesome to see sport back at the @MCG,” Cox tweeted on Boxing Day.
