Tim Tszyu has reached an agreement to fight Sebastian Fundora in a blockbuster world title re-match.

The Australian’s career had been in free-fall ever since his shock, bloody loss to Fundora in Las Vegas in March, 2024.

The 30-year-old was praised around the world for continuing his fight against Fundora even after he had suffered a sickening cut to his head from an accidental elbow.

Now Tszyu is reaping the benefits of that bravery.

Fundora’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz was blunt in explaining why his team has decided to turn back to a re-match with Tszyu instead of an anticipated title fight with Xander Zayas.

“The rematch is with Tszyu is bigger money. Zayas is a very good fighter and we wish him good luck,” he said, per boxing guru Dan Rafael.

Tszyu’s promoters No Limit are yet to confirm the agreement publicly.

Tszyu was also expected to fight Keith Thurman, but that has been scrapped since the golden opportunity to get revenge against Fundora became a possibility.

Boxing journalist Lance Pugmire wrote on X the Fundora-Tszyu fight will likely take place on July 19 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

According to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, Thurman will likely get a chance to fight the winner of the Tszyu-Fundora re-match.

In accepting the Tszyu re-match, Fundora has been forced to vacate his WBO junior middleweight title.

The American “Towering Inferno” will now put his WBC world title on the line against Tszyu.

It is a dream come true for Tszyu, whose hopes of ever getting another title fight suddenly looked bleak after his three-round KO loss to Bakhram Murtazaliev.

Tszyu last year was reported to have a re-match clause in place when he fought Fundora, but that wasn’t worth the paper it was written on with Fundora’s team openly saying Fundora was not going to be forced to fight for his first title defence.

The son of hall of fame fighter Kostya Tszyu was barely able to see out of one eye during his fight with Fundora.

In the end, the judges were split with one handing it to Tszyu 116-112, while the other two gave it to Fundora 116-112 and 115-113.

Speaking on Australia’s The Punch Podcast recently, Fundora hinted that a rematch with Tszyu was in the works, despite having given Tszyu a cold shoulder in 2024.

Of course, of course,” Fundora said when asked about the possibility of a rematch.

“That’s a great fight.

“There’s a bunch of fights in this division that we are in the position to get, it’s just if the other side wants to take it as well.

“(But) I’m pretty sure the Australians would love it. I think it’s a great fight.”

Immediately following Fundora’s upset win over Tszyu, the question of a rematch clause was raised, however the champ stressed there was nothing, contractually, that demanded it.

“People talk too much and people talk a lot when they don’t know,” he said of suggestions a potential rematch clause had been broken.

“There was nothing in the contract for me.

“I never seen anything like that.

“You gotta ask the source yourself, either Tim or me, and we know what was going on.

“I would like that fight, though. I definitely like that fight.”

Tszyu will go into the fight after a career-saving win over Joey Spencer in Newcastle on April 6.
