Aussie boxing star Tim Tszyu will fight for super welterweight supremacy after it was confirmed he would be given a shot at Jermell Charlo’s WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO titles.

WBO president Paco Valcarcel told ESPN Knockout that the fight was locked in, although a venue and date are still to be confirmed.

“They told us that they have an agreement and that they are looking for a date because big fights are coming and this is one of them,” Valcarcel said.

However, the shot means that Tszyu has the chance to become just the ninth undisputed champion in boxing’s four-belt era.

Charlo famously said last year that he wasn’t going to give the Aussie a shot, saying: “Tim, sorry big homie, you ain’t getting that chance to fight Charlo ’cause Charlo got some other plans”.

Having been left waiting in the wings for a title defence for the best part of two years as Charlo and Brian Castano fought to a draw, followed by Charlo’s 10th round KO of the Argentinian to become the undisputed champion of the super welterweight division.

Tszyu was ringside for the second fight and tweeted after the fight: “Great fight and great win for Charlo. Ready when you are @TwinCharlo.”

No Limit boxing’s George Rose said: “It’s great to have the support of the WBO and they are just as excited as we are that this massive fight is now so close. We have a good working relationship with PBC and we are now just working out a date and a venue for the Charlo v Tszyu fight, with dates in October and November on the table.

“We are very confident we will have everything finalised soon and we can’t wait to announce this historically monumental fight for Aussie boxing!”

But Charlo’s already made it personal for the fight, taking aim at Tszyu immediately after his win over Castano.

Referencing Tszyu’s last fight against Terrell Gausha, Charlo said: “Didn’t he get dropped? That motherf***er’s out. He got dropped.

“It’s different heat over here in America, baby. It’s different heat in America.

“How much Tim Too, whatever his f***in’ name is, how much they got? How much money they got? F*** you and Tim Kazoo, change the mic.”

Charlo’s trainer Derrick James added: “I saw him in his last fight — he should be quiet.

“I don’t watch a lot of boxing, but he didn’t look so great. He should work on his own situation.”

This will be a spicy lead up and despite talk that the new Sydney Football Stadium could host the event, No Limit Boxing’s George Rose conceded that it would likely take place in the US.

“Obviously him (Charlo) being the undisputed champion, all the cards are in their favour,” No Limit Boxing chief executive George Rose told Fox Sports News.

“Where we’re at the moment is we’re pushing an Australian or US location. We’d love it in Australia, obviously they want the US location and if it is in the US we’d be pushing for LA or Las Vegas. I think the likely timing of it would be October-November.”
