$32 million in 36 minutes: That’s why they call Floyd Mayweather ‘Money’

IN THE most boastful post to ever hit social media, controversial boxer Floyd Mayweather has told the world just how much he earned for one fight.

FLOYD is good. Just ask him.

“Money” Mayweather, as he is otherwise known, was not shy in showing us all why he earned the nickname with possibly the most boastful post ever to hit social media, breaking his weekend purse down to how much he earned per second.

Regardless of whether you can stomach the guy or not, the figures are staggering.

And they may not even be telling the whole story.

Mayweather’s $32 million in 36 minutes for his weekend bout against Marcos Maidana is ridiculous enough, but the American said he was hoping for a $70 million pay day once the pay-per-view numbers came in.

The Maidana fight was the third bout in a six-fight contract Mayweather signed with Showtime in February 2013 that has been called the richest contract in the history of sports.

Mayweather earned about $115 million under the first two fights, but his $70 million claim for this fight might be wishful thinking, according to Forbes.

“Mayweather is the highest-paid athlete in the world right now and has created an economic model in boxing where almost all of the net revenue for his fights flows to him,” wrote Kurt Badenhausen.

Marcos Maidana of Argentina took it Mayweather, but didn’t come away with the victory.

“His career earnings have reached $400 million, but there is almost no chance that he will clear $70 million for the Maidana fight unless the pay-per-view figures completely blow away everyone’s expectations.”

If Mayweather’s $70 million estimate turns out to be accurate, it works out to nearly 1,600 times the 2012 US national average wage index of $44,321.67.

And he doesn’t mind splashing the cash either, as you can see in his other slightly more humble posts below.
