Aussie unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr’s world has been flipped upside down in the days since his victory over Teofimo Lopez.

Having been a rank outsider heading into the fight, Kambosos claimed a first round knockdown to change the narrative of the bout from the outset and going on to clinch a split decision victory and become the first Aussie to nab three belts in the one fight.

While not quite Buster Douglas odds to beat Mike Tyson, a Kambosos’ win was long odds and the Sydney-sider shocked plenty to claim the victory.

Lopez, who won the three belts in his own shock win against Vasyl Lomachencko in October 2020, was an outspoken champion despite losing his first defence to Kambosos and got plenty of noses out of joint.

One was YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

Paul reacted immediately to the fight, tweeting “DONT F*** WITH AUSTRALIA — CONGRATS @georgekambosos” immediately after the fight.

Since then Kambosos shared a pic of his video chat with the YouTube star.

Paul replied: “All love”.

Paul was active on fight night, taking shots at Lopez.

There is some bad blood between Paul and Lopez, after Lopez said on social media in February: “Stop this YouTuber Boxing. Stop diminishing the sport that we’ve worked so hard for! S*** not sweet.”

It was clear Paul hadn’t forgotten.

He then tweeted a picture of Lopez being knocked down in the first round, a round two of the judges refused to score 10-8 to Kambosos.

But while Paul himself is known for his wild press conferences and willingness to say anything to sell a fight, he took aim at Lopez’ wild reaction to the result.

While Kambosos showed himself a true champion but attempting to make amends for a messy lead up to the fight, Lopez turned his hometown of New York against him.

“He’s a hell of a fighter, but I won tonight, everybody knows that,” Lopez claimed.

“The referee raised my hand. I won tonight, I don’t care what anybody says. I want to thank everybody that came out tonight, look, I ain’t no sore loser, I take my wins like I take my losses.

“At the end of the day I’m a true champion, I did what I had to do, and I went out there and did my best. I don’t care what anybody says, I am as real as they come, and this is the takeover man, we don’t stop, we keep coming.

“At the end of the night, I scored it 10-2.”

He was the only one who seemed to think it was that lopsided.

And Paul took to Instagram to slam the defeated champ.

He also posted an add for a leather belt and captioned it “@teofimolopez since George took all your belts I found this one for you that’s super nice and affordable!”

Paul didn’t stop there, added a picture of a kangaroo, captioning it “Teofimo’s nightmare tonight” and another post of headlines of Lopez’s criticism earlier in the year, writing “Karmas a b**** and I got time today”.

Paul wasn’t the only one to slam Lopez’ classless Kanye moment and was slammed across the boxing world.

Former super-featherweight king Jamel Herring tweeted: “Teo, you my guy, but let my man have his moment. Bounce back, and come back stronger.”

Two-time Olympic champ and middleweight champion Claressa Shields added: “Champions take losses really hard …. But umm this ain’t it. It’s hard losing though …. But it’s still just shake hands, congrat (sic) the other fighter & go back to the drawing board.”

Devin Haney, who is shaping as the man Kambosos wants next, added: “Oh yeah Teo has gone crazy … I told y’all this already.”

Boxing reporter Dan Rafael commented: “Lopez ranting he won the fight 10-2. He is not in reality.”
