Boxing promoter slams Manny Pacquiao for missing doctor’s appointment
ACCORDING to his frustrated promoter, Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will not be fighting any time in the near future.
MANNY Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has slammed the Filipino fighter, calling him “unprofessional” after he missed a scheduled doctor’s appointment.
Arum’s comments follow Pacquiao’s shoulder surgery on May 7 to repair a torn rotator cuff suffered during his loss to Floyd Mayweather days earlier.
“Well, Pacquiao was supposed to come in to see the doctor, and for some reason, he decided to cancel it and come later,” Arum said.
“You know, he’s not acting very professionally, in my opinion.”
The 36-year-old fighter was due to see a Los Angeles doctor on July 4 to follow up on his shoulder rehabilitation, however Pacquiao instead chose to fly to Indonesia to visit Filipino death row drug smuggler Mary Jane Veloso.
“You got an operation like that, you got to do rehab, you got to get the doctor to look at it and guide you on the kind of rehab that you can do,” a frustrated Arum told reporters.
According to Arum, he is not planning on scheduling any fights for Pacquiao in the near future.
“He’s a grown man and he makes his own decisions but as far as I’m concerned he’s not an active fighter.”
During his trip to Indonesia, the prized fighter filmed a television advertisement on top of his visit to Veloso at Wirogunan prison in Java.
“We’re hoping to help save Mary Jane’s life, I think Mary Jane is a victim of human-trafficking,” Pacquiao said after visiting the single mother of two on July 10.
The trip follows the recent sparing of Veloso from death by firing squad on April 29 — the same executions which saw the death of two convicted Australian drug traffickers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.
