NBA world loses it as LeBron and Bronny James make history

The NBA world has been treated to a stunning slice of history after LeBron and Bronny James did something incredible.

LeBron and Bronny James have made NBA history, becoming the first father-son duo to play together in a match.

With four minutes left in the second quarter of the LA Lakers clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves, both men came onto the court to achieve a feat LeBron had long spoken about being one of his goals in the game.

Bronny, who was taken by the Lakers with the 55th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, was widely considered likely to play a majority of the season in the G-League, but the history-making moment was hard to pass up for the franchise as he was dressed for the first match of the season.

While Bronny was not considered one of the best options in the draft after just one season at USC where he largely failed to set the world on fire, there was little chance he would be passed over considering who his father is.

LeBron, the NBA’s all-time leading point scorer, will turn 40 this season but is still a force in the competition and will need to star if the Lakers are going to make a dent this season.

While Bronny missed both of his chances in his first three minutes of his NBA career, he did manage a rebound to at least get onto the stats sheet.

The moment came after LeBron shared a viral video in the hours leading up to the biggest day of his eldest son Bronny’s life.

To mark the special occasion, James released a prank video showing him hazing his first-born ahead of his NBA debut for the Lakers when they face Minnesota at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The video was an advertisement for James’ biggest sponsor Nike.

The video shared on the 39-year-old’s official Twitter account has more than three million views in three hours.

The video starts with James flashing a devilish smile as he pours a box of Fruit Pebbles cereal through the sunroof of Bronny’s flashy car, which was sitting in the driveway of the family home.

The next frame shows Bronny stroll up to open the door of his car before an avalanche of cereal bursts out of the driver’s side door.

Bronny looks all at sea while standing in front of the mess. The next frame shows King James performing a drive-by from the back seat of his luxury sedan, hanging out the window and sledging: “Hey rook, you better not be late”.

The smooth criminal goes on to tell his son: “Hey, clean up my drive way. It’s a mess”.

He drives off by casually putting his sunglasses on with another mischievous smile.

Bronny responds: “Are you serious? You’re too old for this. What’s goin’ on? You way too old for this man.”

The NBA’s all-time scoring turns 40 in December, but he will still be the key piece of the Lakers’ championship hopes.

The father-son pair did play together during the Lakers’ pre-season defeat to the Phoenix Suns earlier this month.

“It’s definitely a moment I’ll never forget,” he said at the time.

“As a father it means everything. For someone who didn’t have a dad growing up, to be able to have that influence on your son, to be able to have moments with your son, to work with your son — that’s one of the greatest things a father could ever hope for.”

James Sr. admitted there were moments on court that felt surreal.

“We came out of a timeout and we kind of stood next to each other. I kind of looked at him. It was like being in ‘The Matrix’ or something. It just didn’t feel real. But it was great to have those moments,” he said.

Anticipation about when the James duo would become the first father-son duo to appear in the same NBA lineup together has built since the Lakers picked Bronny with the 55th pick in the NBA Draft in June.

Bronny said at the Lakers recent media day he was fuelled by the words of critics who have suggested he owes his place on the Lakers roster entirely to his superstar father.

“I’m just taking all that stuff, that criticism and backlash that people have given me and turning it into something that can fuel me,” he said.

Bronny James is expected to spend most of his rookie season in the developmental G-League rather than the Lakers senior squad.
