BROOKLYN Nets veteran Kevin Garnett says his plans for retirement include buying the NBA team that drafted him — the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 15-time NBA All Star and member of the Boston Celtics’ 2008 title-winning team said he’s aiming big once his playing career comes to a close.
“I want to buy the Timberwolves,” he told Yahoo Sports.
“Put a group together and perhaps some day try to buy the team. That’s what I want.”
Garnett played 12 seasons with Minnesota before being traded to Boston.
The Timberwolves reached the NBA playoffs eight times while Garnett was on their roster, and haven’t reached the post-season since he left in 2007.
Garnett might be a little short when it comes to actually affording the team, however, with the 38-year-old having earned about $315 million throughout his career, plus endorsements.
Forbes Magazine valued the Timberwolves at $430 million earlier this year, meaning Garnett will likely form a group in order to buy the team.
