MMA expert explains what really happened in bar fight with football jock

The MMA expert involved in a bar fight with an aspiring NFL star has spoken for the first time to reveal what really happened.

Football player gets badly beaten up

The American college football player who nearly lost an eye in a bar fight this month had it coming, according to the other side.

Walker Brown said he was “defending myself” when he charged at Oklahoma University wide receiver and place-kick holder Spencer Jones in the bathroom of a popular nightspot.

A 58-second video that went viral last week captured the moment Brown, a trained wrestler and mixed martial arts fighter, landed multiple punches and put Jones in a chokehold.

Jones underwent a four-hour procedure to rebuild his left orbital socket following the fracas, according to The Athletic.

Police are investigating the incident, which reportedly took place in the early hours of February 14. No arrests have been made.

The video begins with Jones telling Brown to “get the f*** out of here”.

Brown was then shoved by someone standing next to Jones. Seconds later, Brown wiped blood from his face and struck Jones.

“I am facing a surgery from an injury I received while defending myself and will be looking at some unplanned medical bills and time off of work recovering from the surgery. I am a full-time student who works two jobs,” Brown wrote on a GoFundMe page aimed at helping pay his medical expenses.

“I feel awkward doing this because I want to work and pay my own bills, but I am realising that may be difficult for a little bit.

“I will say that yes, there was something that occurred prior to the start of the video as my nose doesn’t bleed for no reason.

“After I hire an attorney, I will make a statement so you will know my side of the story. Thank you again for all of the support.”

Brown tore his bicep, according to the page, which has raised $AUD63,500.

Woodrow Glass, a lawyer representing Jones, said his client was “trying to de-escalate the situation” and that the blood on Brown’s face wasn’t caused by Jones.

Glass said Jones went to the bathroom to check on his friend, when he ended up in the middle of an argument.

Glass claimed earlier this week his client was the “victim of this vicious assault”.

“Dr. (Perry) Brooks came out of that surgery saying he’s extraordinarily lucky at this point, that he’s lucky he didn’t lose the eye altogether,” Glass told a student newspaper.

“And so he was able to do some things surgically to rebuild that orbital socket and thinks everything is eventually going to come back to normal, but it’s going to take a while for him to fully recover.”

It was on like Donkey Kong.

“He was trying to de-escalate that situation,” Glass added. “But unfortunately, it wasn’t de-escalated despite his best efforts, and he became the victim of this vicious assault you’ve seen.”

The video also showed Brown’s brother, Braden, fighting another man in the bathroom.

Braden Brown, who is also a student at Oklahoma, tweeted that he and his brother have “been wrestling since we were in diapers and MMA/Cage Fighting since we were 12. They gave us no options unfortunately. We showed restraint.”
