American football jock gets floored in bar fight by MMA expert

An aspiring NFL star immediately regretted being involved in a bar fight when his much smaller opponent turned out to be an MMA expert.

An American football player messed with the wrong person and nearly paid for it with an eye.

Spencer Jones, a wide receiver for the University of Oklahoma, got into a bar-room brawl and took the worst of it, absorbing shots to the face and getting taken down in a chokehold.

The man he fought was a trained wrestling and mixed martial arts fighter, according to his brother, who was also involved in the fracas at a popular nightspot in Oklahoma.

It’s unclear what exactly started the fight. Jones was heard yelling “get the f*** out of here” before punches began flying.

As you can see from the footage in the video player above, Jones was not prepared for the onslaught of violence that came his way.

OU Daily reported Jones needed a four-hour operation on February 16 on his eye.

“Dr. (Perry) Brooks came out of that surgery saying he’s extraordinarily lucky at this point, that he’s lucky he didn’t lose the eye altogether,” lawyer Woodrow Glass told the student newspaper.

“And so he was able to do some things surgically to rebuild that orbital socket and thinks everything is eventually going to come back to normal, but it’s going to take a while for him to fully recover.”

Glass also told The Daily Jones was not the aggressor.

“He was trying to de-escalate that situation,” Glass said. “But unfortunately, it wasn’t de-escalated despite his best efforts, and he became the victim of this vicious assault you’ve seen.”

The bar bathroom became an Octagon.

Jones’ opponent secured top position.

Former NFL star turned podcaster Pat McAfee weighed in, saying well-known athletes need to be wary of putting themselves in situations where things could get out of hand.

“Inevitably if you go out and drink a lot, you’re probably going to end up in a situation where you’re looking around going, ‘Not good’,” McAfee said on his podcast.

“You cannot just get in random drunk fights anymore. You have no idea what you are messing with. You have no clue what killer is on the other side.

“Spencer Jones learnt that this week in a bathroom in Oklahoma.”

A flurry of punches was followed by a chokehold.
