Veteran AFL journalist Caroline Wilson is set to scale back her appearances on Channel 9’s Footy Classified next year.

The Herald Sun reports Wilson, who has been a fixture on the show since its inception, will no longer feature on Wednesday night episodes of the program.

For the past two years, The Age columnist has appeared on the TV show twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Wilson has reduced her newspaper workload but still featured on Footy Classified and on radio station 3AW.

She is still planning on appearing on Monday night editions of the show.

Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd has been a panellist on both episodes of the show after Footy Classified made the move to two weekly shows a couple of years ago.

It brought about the return of Eddie McGuire as host, while former Fremantle coach Ross Lyon has been a regular panellist.

Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes, journalist Sam McClure and founding panel member Craig Hutchison have also been regulars on the show in recent times.

McClure would be the frontrunner to replace Wilson, while it’s unclear if Hutchison, who is the owner of Melbourne radio station SEN, will continue to appear on Footy Classified.

The show was first hosted by Hutchison, Wilson, Wayne Carey and Garry Lyon when it started back in 2007.

Meanwhile, Carey will not return to Triple M’s AFL commentary team next year.

Last week, the 51-year-old temporarily stood down from media commitments with free-to-air TV broadcaster Channel 7 and radio station Triple M following his infamous white powder saga.

But as reported by The Age, Carey has officially concluded his contract with Triple M and will not be a part of its commentary team in 2023.
