Malcolm Blight has new role with Gold Coast Suns

DUAL Adelaide premiership coach Malcolm Blight has been appointed as a part-time director of coaching at the Gold Goast Football Club.

Blight, who will step down from his role as a director on the Suns' board, will provide support to senior coach Guy McKenna in the same manner Rodney Eade is assisting Nathan Buckley at Collingwood and Mark Thompson is guiding James Hird at Essendon.

The Brownlow Medallist could join McKenna in the coaching box as early as this Sunday's clash against Geelong at Metricon Stadium.

It is understood the move has the backing of AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou.

''I'm looking forward to helping Guy out,'' Blight said.

''Hopefully we can get a feel for what we need in terms of a structure for the football department going forward.''
