GOLD Coast Suns future star Jaeger O'Meara's year is over with the teenager to undergo season-ending surgery this week.

The youngster, who every club was chasing at the end of last year, will undergo groin surgery in Sydney on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old was too young to play AFL this year but was allowed to play four NAB Cup games despite not officially being on the SUNS list until 2013.

It was there where he displayed his limitless potential with some keen watchers of the opinion he will be the pick of the Suns' kids next to David Swallow.

Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft said it made sense to put him under the knife now.

"Jaeger’s surgery has been on the radar for some time and following consultation with our medical team, the surgeon and Jaeger we determined that it would be in his best interests to have surgery  during the back half of this season," Ashcroft said.

"Undergoing the surgery now will give Jaeger every opportunity to have an uninterrupted pre-season prior to his first season of AFL football.”

The season is also over for teenager Alex Sexton, who played six senior games this season.

“We have been very impressed with Alex’s first season; we think he has really benefited from playing at senior level," Ashcroft said.

"However we also new that at some stage Alex would require surgery to repair damage to his hip."

Ashcroft said both O’Meara and Sexton would begin rehabilitation immediately.
