Josh Daicos’ dad Peter steals the show with viral reaction in AFL thriller

Josh Daicos’ famous dad Peter went wild in the stands and stole all the attention before the Lions spoiled the party after the siren.

Peter Daicos Snr was loving life.

Peter Daicos is as passionate now as he was three decades ago — and we’ve got the footage to prove it.

The Collingwood legend played 250 games for the club and was a proud dad as his son Josh pulled off some magic for the Magpies in Thursday night’s thrilling AFL clash against Brisbane.

But it wasn’t enough as the Lions kicked a goal after the siren to win by one point, Zac Bailey booting truly from a set shot to secure his team’s first win of the year.

Josh, who followed his famous father’s footsteps into wearing the white and black, has been a revelation in 2021 and showed freakish footy talent runs in his blood with a pearler of a goal in the fourth quarter.

The Pies were up by one point with eight minutes to go when Josh crumbed to perfection near the 50m arc, wheeled onto his right foot and launched a bomb around the body that sailed through the big sticks and extended Collingwood’s buffer.

It was a helluva goal that meant even more in the context of the game and Peter was riding every play.

The cameras flicked to him and Josh’s brother Nick in the stands, and you wouldn’t have found a more riled-up supporter anywhere at Marvel Stadium. Peter pumped his fist and smacked the seat as his reaction quickly caught the attention of social media.

“Give me Daicos Snr smacking the seat, celebrating his son every day of the week,” Matthew Lodge tweeted.

Cricket broadcaster Adam Collins wrote: “GIF OF DAICS BANGING THE CHAIR AFTER HIS SON DRAINS A RIPPER, PLEASE!”

Channel 7’s Andrew McCormack added: “Old man Daicos slapping the Marvel seats to celebrate Josh kicking the clutch goal. Magnificent.”

Scott Dooley said: “Collingwood needs to auction a day at the footy with Peter Daicos. I open the bidding at a billion dollars.”

Sports journalist Roy Ward tweeted: “Just love the sight of Peter Daicos and his younger son cheering on old brother as he goals for Collingwood. We don’t realise how special the ‘father-son, father-daughter’ rule is in #AFL and #AFLW — the gift that keeps on giving.”

Fox Sports footy caller Brenton Speed paid credit to an unsung hero. “Credit to the camera person who spins around to capture Daicos family reaction so quickly!!! Take a bow,” he said.

Peter’s good mood wouldn’t have lasted though as Bailey broke Collingwood fans’ hearts at the death.
