Gary Ablett’s wife posts emotional Grand Final message to AFL superstar
After opening up about son Levi’s health battles, Gary Ablett’s wife Jordan penned an emotional message to the retiring AFL superstar.
Footy fans excitedly geared up for Saturday’s Grand Final and so too did the players’ wives and partners.
In the most tumultuous season in AFL history, the better halves of Geelong and Richmond stars have sacrificed plenty as they spent much of the year away from home in the Queensland quarantine hub.
Geelong champion Gary Ablett revealed he would retire this year and his season has been more emotional than most. He revealed his young son Levi suffers from a rare degenerative disease and his wife Jordan dealt with the death of her mum from cancer.
Ahead of the decider, Jordan opened up on Levi’s health battle and on Saturday she posted an emotional message to Gary.
“I actually don’t know how to write this in a way that will accurately express how I feel toward you as a person and as a player of the game,” Jordan wrote on Instagram. “Having not followed footy before I met you, you have well and truly made me a lover of the game.
“You have been so exciting to watch for so many years now and I feel so privileged and blessed to have had front row seats every week watching you prepare and play. You’ve given me a true insight into the sacrifices that players make, the challenges that arise and how to overcome them, and you’ve always shown me that life is so much larger than football.
“I’m so looking forward to the next chapter of our story together. Our entire family, Levi and I are so proud of you (an understatement) and we can’t wait to support you and cheer you on one last time as we watch you on the footy field and in a GRAND FINAL tonight!
“As I’ve always said before each game, get out there and just enjoy yourself. You’ve exceeded all the expectations that have been placed upon you over your career and now is the time to let them go and do what you do best.
“Thank you for taking me on one of the best rides of my life and I’ve enjoyed riding every high and low with you. We love you and remember that you have an army of people back home and in heaven cheering you on, win or lose.”

Brit Selwood, the wife of Joel Selwood, posted a photo on Instagram hours before the opening bounce of her hugging the Geelong captain. “Go Cats,” she captioned the post, with several love heart emojis.
Demi Duncan, the wife of Cats midfielder Mitch Duncan, has been getting into the family feels on her social channels leading up to the Grand Final.
The couple have two kids who have been enjoying some airtime, even rocking their own Geelong guernseys to show their support.
“YAY- the Cats are in the Granny,” Demi captioned a photo of her bubs earlier in the week.
Tom Lynch has been accused of delivering some dog acts on the field this year but the only dog that matters in the Richmond forward’s life is right behind him.
His partner Olivia Burke decked her furry friend out in yellow and black, uploading her handy work to Instagram this afternoon.
