Eddie McGuire defiantly responds to Adam Treloar, Collingwood mess
Adam Treloar and his wife have dominated headlines as the AFL trade period begins and now Pies president Eddie McGuire has weighed in.
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has responded to the messy situation involving Adam Treloar and his future at the club.
The gun midfielder is contracted to the Magpies until the end of 2025 but has reportedly been told he is not wanted in the black and jumper next year. Initial reports suggested Collingwood wants to offload Treloar because it doesn’t think he will be able to perform well while separated from his family, as his wife Kim Ravaillion moves to Queensland next year with the couple’s young daughter to resume her professional netball career.
Then came a report suggesting coach Nathan Buckley had called Treloar and told him senior teammates didn’t want him around in 2021.

Buckley dismissed that claim in a tweet but Collingwood has come under fire for remaining silent and not telling its members what is going on.
Asked about Treloar’s situation on his breakfast radio show, McGuire said “it’s all speculation” and he wasn’t interested in fuelling the fire.
“Can I tell you this? No one will be speaking at Collingwood,” McGuire told the Triple M Hot Breakfast.
“(Collingwood list boss) Ned Guy has to speak at draft radio today or whatever it’s called, Trade Radio, but he won’t be saying too much I wouldn’t have thought, and it’s as simple as that.
“Here’s what happens. We’re in the middle of a very robust negotiation with every club over players and things like that.
“When does this (trade period) finish? Talk to you then.”
Collingwood’s list manager Ned Guy jumped on AFL Trade Radio but played a straight bat to questions relating to Treloar.
“I understand people want to see where things are at. But we did have a commitment to Adam (Treloar) and his manager that we wouldn’t do this publicly. We’ll be speaking up when there’s something to say,” Guy said.
“I don’t know exactly when the last conversation (between the club) and Adam Treloar was. I’m not privy to any conversations between him and Bucks.”
McGuire’s comments come as AFL legends Garry Lyon and Tim Watson hit out at Buckley’s social media activity and Collingwood’s unwillingness to set the record straight.

“The club hasn’t communicated with its members, I think that’s been disrespectful,” Watson said on SEN Breakfast.
“You’ve got a salary cap issue, this player took a back-ended deal to accommodate other players, you’re also worried he won’t be able to deal with his family disconnection — the problem is the football club.
“Members, I would think, want to know how you got into this salary cap mess and how you’re going to get out of it.
“It’s of your own doing, Collingwood. You’ve got to tell your members how you’re going to navigate your way out of it.”
Melbourne great Lyon took aim at Buckley’s Twitter response and also clipped Collingwood big man Mason Cox, who said he loses all respect for the media at this time of year because “rumours become facts and the constant need to be first outweighs validity entirely too often”.
“If your policy is you’re not going to comment on anything, don’t comment on anything,” Lyon said. “The first comment out of Collingwood is a Twitter response.
“We need to hear from him (Buckley) as to how and why this didn’t happen.
“You talk about rumour and innuendo, it’s a massive story that’s developed with Adam Treloar, so don’t blame the media for telling the story.
“Now we wait to found out what the response is.”
After it was revealed his wife and child were moving to Queensland in 2021, Treloar was emphatic in saying he wanted to remain at Collingwood.
He said his family had thought long and hard about the complications of living apart in separate states and were confident of making it work.
However, if Treloar is forced into a move north then Gold Coast remains the only option after Brisbane officially ruled out making a play for the 27-year-old.
