Footy fans are looking for a “please explain” after Melbourne star Jake Melksham was allowed to get away with bloody murder against GWS.

The radio broadcaster and TV host has been complaining all year about umpires not penalising players for disposing of the ball incorrectly — and his blood was boiling after the worst example yet.

Melbourne’s Jake Melksham wouldn’t look out of place at the Olympics with a javelin in hand, so good was his blatant throw during last night’s thrilling 12.7 (79) to 11.8 (74) win over GWS.

Finding the footy after Max Gawn’s tap-down from a boundary throw in during the first quarter, Melksham ran into a Giants player and as he tumbled backwards, tried to get rid of the Sherrin before hitting the deck.

Rather than rely on traditional methods — you know, a handball or kick — the 29-year-old simply hurled the ball out the back with his right hand.

Melksham should have been pinged for incorrect disposal but the officials missed his throw and it was play-on.

Maher, whose Twitter timeline is littered with complaints about stars getting away with murder by chucking the footy around, was absolutely filthy.

“It’s beyond nonsense now,” he wrote.

“You can only hope that ALL THREE of them (the umpires) were blindsided. Imagine if that’s now being given a green light.

“I’m a broken man. It’s beaten me into submission.”

Melbourne’s win saw it leapfrog the Giants into eighth place, each team having one more game to play in the regular season.

GWS made the bombshell move to drop $7 million captain Stephen Coniglio for the clash against the Demons as coach Leon Cameron sent a message to his troops that reputations mean nothing if you’re not performing.

The move generated plenty of discussion in the footy world and Cameron hasn’t ruled out further selection shocks against St Kilda on Friday.

“We made that really tough call, a really tough call, and if there has to be more tough calls next week there will be,” Cameron said. “Because our season has been like that. We haven’t turned up all the time.

“When you’re good for two weeks and bad for two weeks you can’t have anyone safe because it’s not consistent enough.

“We’re nowhere near Port Adelaide, Richmond, West Coast, Brisbane — they’ve been terrific.

“For most of this year we’ve been inconsistent. Individuals add up to that team performance. We need to pick our best team for next Friday night against St Kilda.

“If that means there’s players there out of form the last two or three weeks it doesn’t matter who you are.”
